University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

I'm new to this site so I apologize in advance if a thread for this has already started but I am looking for any applicants out there for the FNP program for Fall 2011 at University of Maryland's school of nursing. I'm totally stressing over this waiting because I work with this guy who applied last semester and was rejected and he's pretty much a genius, lol. Then I found some posts from Fall 2010 and everyone was rejected. How competitive is getting into this program. I'm starting to think I should really be thinking about what I will do if I don't get in. Anyone know what they are looking for in the application process other than a high GPA?

Dont be upset. To be honest I sorta feel as if I'm dodging a bullet. The department doesnt seem to be the most organized. Still a few schools out there with a July deadline. I've already applied and received a call back from admissions. Not too concerned!

I, myself am still waiting to hear, but am not hopeful at all...to hear that the RN with the MS and doctorate are not yet interviewed is very interesting...I have no idea what they are looking for over there @ UMD......I'm hugely confident that my rejection letter is coming soon, and will let you all know soon....Best of luck to all else who await a decision and those looking for jobs, too.....We're all in this together!!

I agree, I have no idea what they are looking for either and I too, am very confident I will be getting my rejection letter as well, but I have already begun making plans to move on with applications to other schools and continuing my education in the process. Certainly can't put my life on hold for one school, however disappointed I am. I will post as well when I get the confirmation (for anyone wondering) and good luck to you as well!

I actually spoke with someone from admissions and the person all but said I wasnt accepted. According to the individual "Decisions will be updated by tomorrow".....ie your rejection status will be updated very soon. Like I said I'm not disappointed because in a way I feel that the program's expectations are ridiculous. I know that I'm qualified but maybe this just isnt the school for me. I will accept my rejection status like a woman!

Oh wow. So the interviews are new. I don't know any current students but the FNP director filled me in on that part at one of the program info sessions. They also said they were looking to take less students than last years class. Eeek! @wicomico- Have you already interviewed or do you go tomorrow? I've already had mine and thought it went pretty well. Now back to waiting...

May I ask where else you have applied thats still accepting for the fall? I know CUA is but they're so expensive!!!

Sorry to keep posting back to back responses but I don't think any of us should be so hard on ourselves. From what I've heard a lot of the FNP programs, especially in this area, have received soooo many applications this year. One of the schools where I interviewed was very honest and said they were telling all applicants that they should have a plan B (which in retrospect I appreciate so much considering I did not get into that one). Unfortunately, there are just not enough spots in the programs for FNP students this year. But my mom always told me that you don't stop after one no! And sometimes I don't think there is a rhyme or reason to why some students are selected and not others. What we really need is more educators and clinical sites so that these programs can accomadate all of us eager students who are begging to make a difference.

anyone still sitting at "committee ready"??

Yes, mine still says "committee ready."

Yes, mine still says "committee ready."

It depends on the department. I checked my status on Friday and to my surprise I was accepted!:yeah:Youre better off waiting for the decision to be updated online because you wont get any info via phone.
