  1. Family NP or Adult acute care NP

UVA Grad Nursing, you said that your state is changing its Nurse Practice Act to keep primary care NP's from working in specialty areas. What state is that? BTW, I ended up enrolling in an Acute/Critical Care NP program, at Johns Hopkins. Halfway d...
  2. towson/baltimore RN pay

If you're interested in ER, Sinai's ER pays around $32 an hour with a couple of years of experience, plus differentials. Can't tell you about anywhere else, as I've never worked anywhere else.
  3. University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

Hi, Jani78rn, I've been an ED nurse for two years. As you could tell, nursing is a second career for me. When I made the switch, I was accepted to several three-year-long NP programs for non-nurses. I thought I'd learn a lot more by working as a n...
  4. University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

I was rejected, but that's OK since I figured out I'd really rather do the Acute Care program, anyway. But I am curious to hear about the writing sample (in case I get an interview for the Acute Care program)---did they give you a topic and ten minu...

Congratulations!! Now you can relax and enjoy the summer!
  6. University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

Yes, mine still says "committee ready."
  7. University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

That's interesting . . . I have 3 degrees outside of nursing (a master's, a doctorate, and another bachelor's), a 4.0 in the science classes, and 3.75 in the nursing classes (from a nursing school ranked at the same level as the U of Md). I've lived...
  8. University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

I didn't think they did interviews. At any rate, no word of any kind yet. Attended an info session on the Acute/Trauma/Emergency NP program a few weeks ago, and they said that they admit about 20 people for that specialty.
  9. University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

Yes, everyone I've spoken with at FNP programs across the country says the same thing----they never imagined they'd ever see this many applications. I think it's because everyone wants to get started NOW, before the programs all switch to the DNP (r...
  10. Family NP or Adult acute care NP

Wow, do any other schools offer a combined FNP/Acute Care NP program? This seems like an ideal solution for the dilemma. Thanks!
  11. University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

This is what I heard from a co-worker who is one semester away from completing the program.
  12. FNP program at Coppin State?

Does anyone here have any experience with Coppin State's FNP program? If so, is it well run? Where do you do clinicals? Do graduates pass their board exams? I hope I don't sound snobby, I just really know next to nothing about this school. Thank...
  13. University of Maryland SON FNP Fall 2011

Not sure whether this is true or not, but the word on the street is that they accept only 10 people a year for the program. If we're talking about hundreds of applications, and we assume that many if not most of the applicants did well in nursing sc...
