Just too toot my own horn---I'm finished and now I'm a BSN!!!!

I started last July 2013, and now I'm done, stick a fork in it, complete, finish.

To my fellow students, you can do this. I did it, and worked full-time nights (3-12s) and dealt with family issues, and the other junk life threw at me. Did I graduate with a 4.0? No. I'm ok with that, don't plan on going to grad school, too old for that, don't feel like going into debt, satisfied with the BSN. Could I have done better, of course, but in the grand scheme of things in my life, I passed. No hiring manager is ever going to ask to see my transcript. Would I recommend the school? Yep, it wasn't easy, but it wasn't hard. APA papers weren't everything about the program. I actually learned how to upload a video to YouTube, how to do a PowerPoint presentation, how to put together a portfolio, and was able to get my resume together. And I didn't go in debt doing it.

I have survived week 1 of ULL. So Far, So Good. I have no complaints. I like it very much. I have a good instructor.

I know allot of people complain about online programs. I can tell you; online is no different really than in the classroom to me. It depends on the instructor.

The only main difference between classroom and online is that there are no lectures per se. Some classes have pre-recorded lectures (videos / audio) and some have pre-recorded lectures via PowerPoint. But usually when you take an online class you are expected to read and do the assignments by the due date.

Now in this age of technology we are all use to this. We all know how to download and upload files. So, the real problem comes in when you have a disorganized instructor. People complain about BlackBoard and Moodle. But they are basically the same thing, a way for schools to deliver a course online. It becomes confusing when you have a disorganized instructor who is just all over the place and unclear.

I have the same instructor for both my first classes 353 and 354. She is very clear and organized. Plus she emails you what is do that week at the beginning and end of the week to make sure you don’t miss it.

This is what my classes look like this first term:

353 - Orientation:

1. 2 quizzes both multi choice except for 1 question between the two which was fill-in

2. You had to complete your online profile for the university moodle system

354 - Transition to Professional Nursing:

1. There is a quiz every week due by 8pm EST Friday (multi choice)

2. It appears we will have1 crossword puzzle for the whole course. We had a practice one which was crazy hard. They have whole phrases with spaces included. The good thing is you can check progress as you go it will tell you what is right and delete what is wrong.

3. 2 discussion questions in which you must respond to 1 peer. Initial response 300 word limit and 2 references posted by 8pm EST Tuesday. Peer response 200 word limit and 1 reference posted by 8pm EST Thursday .

4. We have 3 papers the 1st is to be between 2-3 pages, 2nd 2-4 pages and the 3rd final 2-5 pages. The instructions are very clear. So, to be honest it is going to be hard to cut it down to so few pages.

What I do for the quizzes is to study the key terms which are given at the beginning of each chapter and bolded in the reading. And I study the Key Points at the end of each chapter. And so far that has worked.

I hope this helps give you an idea of what it is like.

Where are the peer discussions. I only saw the introduce yourself ?

I don't know if we have the same instructor or not. But if so, there are discussion questions for weeks 3 and 4. It isn't open yet so you can't post but they are there.

Ok. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I like the fact that out grade isn't just based on papers. The first paper is driving me insane!

I am a bit confuse as to what we need to write . My paper include my pt and his chronic condition using the 7 assumptions. I will write a conclusion with a scholar journal. Hope this is what is required of us?

Hi all, I stumbled on this thread concerning ULL, I have applied and am waiting to here back concerning my transcript. i have been looking at Rn to BSN programs for mths and need to make a decision. I keep coming back to this school for the price and also I think I have most of the prereq. I know theres a tech class does has anyone taken this class? If so how difficult is it? Also, how long does is take for discussions? And most important would you recommend this school?

The first paper was difficult for me too. I don't know if I wrote what she wanted either. I tried to cover all of the 7 assumptions as they pertained to my chronically ill patient. An example would have been nice...lol

Hello everyone! I am now into my third to last term in the ULL program. I am scheduled to complete my last term, the Capstone project in December, if all goes well.

I can tell you a few things about the program that they may not advertise. First, expect to pay more than $8500. ULL is kind of particular about their prerequisites and may not accept credit from other universities. Each non nursing course that you have to take online will cost approximately $1100 more. There is a trick to this though. Find out ahead of time where credits are accepted from that may be cheaper. I took an English through LSU's distance learning program that cost me less than $600 to fulfill my last English requirement.

Secondly, some courses are a LOT easier than others. Be mindful of that. I have fairly easily completed prior courses with working a full time job. Now I'm in NURS 327 - Community Nursing - and I seriously want to cry EVERY DAY. It's a horrifically time consuming class with a very "on his game" instructor. It does not help that community health is not my thing.

Overall its a good program and I will have hopefully completed it in a year and 3 months while being a mom and working a busy full time job. If I can do it, anyone can!

Update: 354 - Transition to Professional Nursing

1st paper:

I would have to agree with prior students that said, "They grade mostly on content and not on formatting." Don't get me wrong they grade formatting too. They just don't take a bunch of points off from it. At least, the instructor that graded mine didn't. Word of advice: make sure you cover all your points and try to get your formatting right. You should do ok.

Dear crystal0606,

Thanks for the advice. They actually took all of my credits but I am missing English Lit. I never took it. So, I am going to look into LSU. Also, Thanks for the heads up on 327. I think this is like most classes. It really depends on the instructor. Hopefully I won't get yours...lol

Any feedback on your paper from the professor? I got a grade that I wasn't too happy about and wanted to know why?
