University of Cincinnati's Accelerated nursing program

Published

Hello Everyone,

Have any of you attended UC's accelerated program? I have been seriously considering going that route instead of going elsewhere for an ADN program.

However, i haven't taken the GRE or the pre-reqs they require. Can i still apply now to see if i get in, or do i need to take the GRE and pre-reqs first?

If you have gone there, how was the program?

THANKS!

Hi,

I haven't attended the program, but I have researched it. You can apply to the program once you have taken your GRE. You can't enroll in the actual nursing portion though until you have completed pre-reqs. There are quite a few people on here that have done the program that have posted info in the past. If you type in University of Cincinnati accelerated in the search box you should find a lot of good information.

Thanks and Good Luck

hi all,

i am ecstatic to have just received acceptance into uofc's fnp program so i apologize that i can not, as of yet, give you any feedback on the program. i had been waiting awhile on pins & needles for almost over a month & were nervous b'c classes start next month. well i contacted my advisor and received word back i have been accepted but for the following semester :lol2:. i was ready to start now but then decided i will just have to wait. otherwise, i have heard that their program is good so far and they are a highly recommended school. i would like to keep in contact with any other students who are attending uofc's programs and so that we can network and possibly see each other on this path. if any of you would like to keep in contact my email address is [email protected]

Sorry that I didn't see your post before now. I graduated from the UC Wandering Decelerated Pathway program 8/07, and highly recommend it.

If you attend the program, I think you'd both love and hate it. At times, it's disorganized & frustrating. You'll be constantly busy (except on your between-quarter breaks), and working to keep up with classroom assignments, studying, quizzes/tests/papers/projects/.... Having strong organizational skills certainly helps with any accelerated program.

That being said, I'd certainly do it all again.

The program director is truly wonderful. Some of the profs are merely clueless, some are excellent, others are paranoid. Such is life!

If you've not taken the GRE yet, STUDY STUDY STUDY. Score well on the GRE to qualify for the UC Graduate Scholarship (covered 60% of tuition while I attended the program).

CrufflerJJ,

Thank you so much for getting back to my post and letting me know you graduated . I thak you for your feedback on their program because that leaves me a little less clueless . I, definately, will take all those things you stated into consideration. I am glad to hear that, besides the often common, that overally you liked their program. Just interested, so what has been your next move since graduating UC? Keep in contact and thanks again for all of the information.--God Bless

keep in mind the prerequisites are quite lengthy if you haven't started yet. they will take a minimum of 4 quarters, which is 1 year if you go in the summer too. you have to take 3 quarters of a&p and then pathophysiology which has a&p 3 as a prerequisite. that is the biggest thing that deterred me from their program.

the website states, "students who complete phase i will be placed on the phase ii ready list sequentially and selected to start phase ii in groups of 32 every june and january." so, i'm not sure if they have a waitlist or not, but just because you are on the phase ii ready list may not mean you are in the top 32 to start with the next group.

their website about the accelerated program has valuable information on it. you should check it out.

it has 3 phases.

phase 1: pre-nursing

phase 2: bsn coursework

phase 3: msn coursework

contact the graduate program coordinator at [email protected] or (513) 558-3600 for more info.

i live in texas and i've never heard of a school that even has anatomy & physiology 3 here.

where am i supposed to take this prerequisite course in order to apply to the program?

Hey Sam,

I replied to you in a different discussion, but just realized that I did not include something that may be helpful to you- do you have any A and P classes so far? The "3" is based on the fact that UC is a quarter system (right now anyway, they will transition to semesters soon). A and P 1 and 2 in semesters would translate to A and P 1, 2 and 3 in the quarter system. I would suggest contacting the Graduate Program Coordinator for a transcript assessment if you have had ANY A and P classes so far, and let her know your concerns. She is amazing! You may find that you don't really need "3," depending on your experience, and she will be able to clarify for you. For example, I have never taken the A and P sequence, but have teaching experience and have taken other classes that add up for me to equal having had the sequence. I was confused and worried too, until I dialogued with her and figured it all out. Hope this helps- let me know!

Ahhh, thank you SO much! It makes perfect sense now! :)

I was worried I'd have to look around for some A&P 3 class, but I'm glad I won't have to :)

Thanks again ))

hi, sorry to resurrect this thread, but i'm totally confused right now and need some help.

so now i'm working on accelerated np program applications, and most of the deadlines are either nov. 1st or dec. 1st. i emailed uc nursing yesterday to find out what the deadline was, and in the reply email i got this "november 1st is not the deadline for fall applicants it is june 1st."

but how is the deadline for someone like me june 1st if the program itself would start in summer 2011?
