Thanks for the feedback. I have mostly been applying to acute care facilities. I am hoping that something comes up once I get my license. I just need to wait it out and maybe do some temporary work. I would hate not to get in some clinical experience after spending all this time in school. :-). However I will see what comes up first. I will keep you posted.

Okay, I hope you all can provide some insight. I apologize in advance for the ramble. I am a second degree nursing student. Prior to that I spent 8 + years in the IT industry as an analyst, coder, and administrator for financial and retail companies. Former degree is Business with a concentration in MIS. I decided to go into nursing because I was ready for a change and I had always had an interest in healthcare. I have gone back and forth with I wanted to do in this area, but while I like caring for patients I kind of miss IT. So why not combine the two right? I wanted to work as RN for a few years to gain some experience, but as a new graduate I am finding getting a position as an RN very difficult. Granted I am not yet licensed, (will take boards in July), but I am getting rejection letter, after rejection letter. It is frustrating and I feel like a failure. I never have gone through this before. I have always been an excellent student, had a successful career and never had difficulty obtaining positions. So my dilemma is do I wait, find temporary work to pay the bills and keep applying for RN positions, or do I speed my entry into Informatics and start looking for a role in that area. However I am not sure anyone will give me a chance without paid clinical nursing experience, I have been able to use Epic for a year as student, but haven't worked the back end of the product. My previous skill set in the Business Intelligence area is always in demand, but I want to combine my healthcare knowledge and not just strictly go back to being technical. My fear is that if I don't find a nursing position and go right into some type of Healthcare IT position, I will never be able to get clinical experience so that I can be taken seriously. However I am running out money and will soon have to start paying back student loans. What are your thoughts?

I don't think that is correct. I would look into another community college and talk with their advisors. Taking a class or two for math shouldn't mean you have to complete a whole other degree first. Sounds fishy to me! Don't get discouraged. Best of Luck!

Well!! I got an interview invite today. So now I just need to work on selling it! lol!

I am a second career student as well, BSBA in MIS, and have worked the last 8 years in IT as a programmer, system admin, pm, ba, and whatever else they tell me to do:D. I am taking the risk of leaving a fairly stable, well paying job to do this, but I just feel that now is my time. Just turned 30, no kids, and no husband. I have wanted to come out of the IT industury almost as soon as I got in it, but fear held me back. In the end I figured what have I got to lose, there is always health care IT. I am excited to get started. I know finding a job won't be a cake walk, but I believe in the long run this is the best choice for me. I am dying waiting to find out if I got into my program. The wait is killing me!!!! I am apply to the Wright State Accelerated program. They have until the end of Feb to notify us for a March 29 start date. I am so nervous. This is a huge life change for me and I am ready to get started! Good luck everyone!

Hi , I can't offer any help. It has been 10 years since I did a panel interview and it was in a totally different area. I did have a question though. How did you get the interview for the OSU program? Did you just apply, go there personally,etc. I am an OSU grad in a different area. I hope to start at WSU in March for nursing though. I would love to move back to Columbus when I am done with my program. Thanks, D

Hello , I am going to turn 30 this year and I am contemplating a career change into Health Care. Right now I work as a systems analyst for a great company. I have a bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems and I have worked in the IT field for about ten years. I have never been totally happy in my present line of work and I find it very unfulfilling. However I have stayed because I feel like I have so much invested and earn a decent paycheck. Last year I completed an STNA class and began taking prerequisite classes for an accelerated nursing program. After doing a lot of research I think CRNA might be my ultimate goal after completing my RN program and working a few years, but I am getting cold feet. In the present economy, I am starting to feel a little nervous about making such a drastic change. I was wondering if there are any CRNAs out there in the Cincinnati or NKY area that might be willing to let me shadow them. I would really like to spend some time to find out if I can really see myself doing this, before I put aside my security blanket and leave my present position to start a new and very long journey at this stage in my life. I thought about just calling one of the hospitals, but I feel a little weird asking to shadow when I haven't even started my RN. I thought maybe someone on the board might understand my position and be of some help. Thanks

Hi, I haven't attended the program, but I have researched it. You can apply to the program once you have taken your GRE. You can't enroll in the actual nursing portion though until you have completed pre-reqs. There are quite a few people on here that have done the program that have posted info in the past. If you type in University of Cincinnati accelerated in the search box you should find a lot of good information. Thanks and Good Luck

Good Luck. I am in the same spot as you. I am so frustrated at my current job and Friday morning I was so ready to quit, but I held my tongue of course. I have to get my money together and sell or rent my house before I can go back to school. So I had to take a deep breath and relax. I would say be honest and say that you really want to learn the job well, and then enter school. You could even work there during school.

Hi, Cincinnati is a family town. You will find nice malls, fairly clean neighborhoods for a pretty decent cost of living. If you are looking for the nightlife, this probably isn't the city. However there are still many things to do. From what I have heard Children's Hospital is a great place to work. I attended Ohio State for my first degree and I will say that I really like living in that area as well. Hope that helps.:wink2:
