University of Cincinnati online Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello,

Has anyone had experience with the University of Cincinnati online MSN (Adult psychiatric Nurse Pracitioner) online program?

Any comments, feedback, or impressions would be much appreciated!

I've been accepted for the program starting this summer, but would love to hear from someone who either has completed the program, or is going to be attending.

Thanks very much!

Hey, I'm...hmm, 3 quarters ahead of you? I'm still in the core classes. I love online learning and the classes seem pretty reasonable (physiology is the toughest IMO). Muuuuchhh better than undergrad. And I love the quarter system, for the first year we only take 2 classes at a time.

But I'm starting to look for clinical sites and getting worried. The school does NOT help you attain clinical placement at ALL; I would advise that you know someone or start to look VERY early. Even my current employer (gee, with only 35 docs to choose from) and people I thought would be glad to have free help have slammed the door in my face. UC has affiliations with hospitals in the midwest but their spaces are for the ground-based students only. Good luck finding a practicum! If you wanna chat more feel free to pm.

Thanks very much for your reply and advice. It's refreshing to hear some feedback from someone who is actually going through the program and who could offer some firsthand knowledge about what to expect. I'd love to hear a little more about your feedback about the program, the classes, the preparation, etc. As well as any feedback regarding working while completing the program. Apparently I can't pm as I haven't had enough posts, but feel free to pm me and I could give an email address.

Thanks again and take care!

Hey, I am starting the online psychiatric NP program at the University of Cincinnati this summer as well. I was wondering if you would like to exchange contact info? I figure we can help each other find out what to expect for the program. My email is [email protected].

For those of you enrolled...how is the program thus far???

So far...the orientation seemed fairly comprehensive--information about Blackboard, policies, advisors, etc. The first quarter is halfway over. Physiology is a considerable amount of work between discussion posts, case studies, reading, and quizzes. Biostatistics is less intense and more manageable.

Are you in the program?

No, not in the program. I'm poking around while I get my BSN online. I am interested in a psych NP or CNS program. Have been disheartened by the change to DNP...I waited too long to do this and now it seems ridiculously complicated to transition at this stage in my life. Soooooooo...thought I would gather information and figure out what route to take. Thank you for the information. Good luck to you in your program.

I have applied to the Autumn 2011 session. Awaiting to here back!

Wow, that's coming up soon! Good luck with starting the program!

I am almost done the 1st quarter of the program and I have found it to be very manageable. I currently work fulltime (45-50hrs) a week and still manage to complete my assignments on time with some play. Its all about time management. Physiology is challenging but doable. I would recommend reading the 1st couple chapters of Physiology to give yourself a head start while you adjust to the program. Hope this helps, as I went into the program blind and was scared to death about what to expect!

Is anyone in their second year of the program yet? I would love to hear what to expect..

I was just accepted to the UC Psych NP program that starts in Jan. 2012! I applied for the autumn session of 2011 but it was full. I am more than happy w/this though. Can't wait to start!!!!
