University of Cincinnati Online FNP 2017

I have just finished applying for the Spring 2017 Online FNP program. Just seeing if anyone else is with me here? Are any of you in the program currently? If so, how do you like it? Any hiccups thus far?

NurseKrysten,

Tell me about how they handle the preceptorship situation. Did you have a discussion with the school about this and if so what did they tell you?

Hi Buyer beware,

They handle preceptorship independently. You are allowed to find your own preceptors and you can stay with the same one for the entire year of clinical if you like. I will be FNP, so all of my clinical does have to be in the family physician office setting. Basically, you can find up to five potential preceptors. They sign a contract with you for the year and you send that to the school for approval. They recommend getting a few of them just in case they aren't approved. Once you're good to go you just have them log your clinical hours for the year. Seems pretty simple to me.

I just got my acceptance letter today! I am so excited to start this journey!

Do you mind sharing what your GPA and how many years of experience you had? I will be applying to the online fnp program and am interested in learning if I will be accepted.

Hello Krysten

i am about to start this program fall 2017, i am nervous and anxious. can you tell me the structure about the program, Post Certificate family nurse practioner online fall 2017. i would love to hear from you.

Of course! I have roughly 11 years experience altogether, but only 4 years as an RN in ICU. My GPA was a 3.5. Basically you'll apply through NursingCAS and it provides a breakdown of your degrees with subsequent GPAs in all subjects. For instance, my science GPA was only a 3.0, yet my mathematics GPA was a 3.9. UC told me they look at math above science. A friend of mine was also accepted with an overall GPA of 2.7, so it can be done. Get good references. Physicians if possible! You'll do great! GO FOR IT!

Did you receive your acceptance letter through email or airmail?

Thanks!

The program is mapped out very user friendly. They use Blackboard or Canopy. It's pretty basic. So in my classes right now I have 2 assignments due about every 3 weeks with an exam about every 4 weeks. It's extremely doable work! the assignments are honestly just busy work. The exams are a bit more challenging, but they give you ample time to study and lots of resources. I'm doing this full-time with 4 children and job. I dropped to part-time, but it was more to keep my kids out of daycare than anything.

Hi Krysten,

When did you get here back of UofC? I applied for the MSN program for fall 2017 but have not heard back yet.

Good luck with your program!

I heard back almost exactly 12 weeks after I had applied. Do you remember how to get onto that little UC account they gave you to fill out the application for the university? Another way to find out if you have been accepted is to log into that and look at your application status. It will either say deferred, declined or admitted. If it says admitted then you have been accepted into the program. They usually update that before they send out the emails! Good luck to you!
