Hello everyone,
I did not see a conversation on UCLA MECN 2024. This is a topic for everyone who has applied to the MECN program for 2024! Good luck everyone, I am getting a little nervous. We should get acceptance letters by mid-February!
Does anyone have any tips for people who are waiting to hear from UCLA but have to let their second choice school know in the next few days? It seems unfair that they've been taking this long since I'm sure they know that some of us have to let other schools know very soon...so stressful!

I think if I were in that position I would accept the school I got into and then drop it if I got into UCLA. It might cost you more money unfortunately but it's a way to do it if you need to...
Hi all, I've been checking this forum for the past couple days to see that everyone is also in the same boat waiting for decisions to be released. This is random but I also got accepted into CUI's ABSN program and if potentially got into UCLA, I would not know which program would be better for me in the long run. Ideally, I want to be an FNP if someone could give input on which program mught help me better in the long run. Thanks everyone!

You'd be in the same spot regardless of what school you accept since they both only reward you with a RN license. Both would require you to apply to an FNP program after you get your RN!
I think it's APU and Western U that have programs that are more or less direct entry MSN to NP programs if I am not mistaken!

My goal is the same. UCLA's MECN program may be better in the long run because you will obtain your MSN. Then you could enroll in a post-master's certificate program to obtain your FNP. CSULA has a one-year program for obtaining your nurse practitioner license and the requirements are a MSN and RN license. An ABSN program is also a great option, but then you'd have to enroll in a MSN program for your NP.
I just checked the csula one and then the usc one ( my friend recommends ), as they don't need you to have a MSN to apply! csula has two options, one that gives you MSN+FNP while the other is a FNP post masters certificate for those who already have a MSN! regardless, there are many options out there for you whether you choose UCLA or CUI! UCLA definitely has the star name appeal though! : )
thank you for both of your inputs! yeah I am having a hard time. do you know if the post master's FNP certificates require you to work for 1-2 years? or you can apply straight out of the MSN? if it doesn't I was leaning more towards ucla so I could apply after. if it does, I am leaning towards CUI since I would start in May and it is a 15 month program so I would graduate and be done by August 2025 and be able to work and then apply for a 2 year MSN-FNP program. when I calculated, it seemed like both options either way would take me the same amount of years to get to my FNP goal essentially.

I think that if both would take you the same amount of years just go with the cheaper option.
I got accepted !! I didn't receive any emails but just checked the status of my UCLA graduate application and it said "An update to your application was last posted on March 1, 2024!" There was a link under it and it contained my acceptance letter! It's not March 1st yet; this is so weird! But I got in ☺️

I was in the same boat! but since things are delayed with the acceptances , I doubt I'll get off the waitlist anytime soon! I'm going to just accept UCI !
