Hi! Just thought I would create a new topic for all of us applying to UCLA's MECN program this year ?

Hey guys. MECN here, if you guys have any questions about the program that I can answer I will be happy to help ?

Does "everyone" admitted really get some kind of scholarship like the website says? And do you know if most students are able to find bedside jobs in the LA area?

Mmm, I am not too sure about scholarships. I received a pretty decent scholarship (covering ~half of the total tuition.) I think my classmates received around the same or more. You apply to a bunch of internal UCLA SON-specific scholarships in the late Spring / early Summer. The grad division also provides about $1000 total per quarter to cover fees and other costs which is nice.

Some on-campus jobs provide tuition remission which covers ~50% of the total tuition + health insurance too. Personally, I decided to keep working while in the program in an office on campus, which provides me with those additional benefits!

With regard to bedside jobs, I think going to UCLA helps. We do have "brand recognition" but I am not too 100% sure about the logistics of this. All of the previous MECN students I talked to who were applying to jobs had something lined up post-grad in a variety of different units. I've also heard that UCLA Health really likes to hire from our school which is great! Wish I could help more by providing actual data, but the anecdotal data seems to be positive ?

Reikones pretty much summed it up. I think most people got about 50% of their total tuition covered. If you have your own insurance waive the university insurance and you save thousands per quarter. I don't think other fees are waivable. You can find a lot of the books in pdf format online also.

Specializes in CPT-1.

Silly question, Is it an essay type of deal or is it showing proof of income or just filling out an application with questions? You mentioned the quality of the student's application.

Has any of the waitlisted people heard back yet?

I emailed them maybe 2 weeks ago, and my waitlist ranking has not changed. I might email them again next week.

Just got an email that I was accepted into the program. I was #10 on the waitlist. Good luck everyone

Hi guys. Has anyone else got anything from them?

I was #17 on the waitlist and just got accepted into the program! I plan to enroll at UCLA and give up my current spot at UC Davis. I'm excited to meet some of you at UCLA in the near future! Best of luck to everyone still on the waitlist. Admissions said they usually get into the 20's on their alternate list, so there is still hope!

Congrats @pitterpatter! I was #15 on the list but still haven't heard anything from them how weird ?

Thank you!! That is really strange! I did email Admissions on Friday to check my alternate list position, so I would recommend checking in with them to see where you stand. I would think you would have been accepted too!
