University of Calgary, January 2020

Hello, I’m applying for the U of C degrees holder route for January 2020. Just want to say hi to other applicants. I applied on July 2nd and have not got any update on my application.

Thank you. Please am I supposed to do the vaccine and N95 mask test before resumption of school on January, or I can do after resumption.

If you are re-doing all the vaccines, it is best to get started early because certain ones (like MMR, Hep B, Td) require multiple shots and will take a few months.

I cannot remember whether they required N95 to be done before school... it's best to check your admission booklet for that one. Just note that the N95 certificate is valid for 2 years so if you do it before Jan 2020, you'd have to re-do it before you complete the program.

Thank you. How about the classes schedule? Do they have classes everyday from Monday to Friday? Also from when to when in a day?

There are two schedules and you will be randomly assigned to one of them. You will have class 4 days a week and get either Monday off or Thursday off. If you have Monday off, then Thursday will be your full day clinical day (8 hours), and vice versa. On Tues, Wed, and Fri, your day will go from 8am to around 5pm (lecture in the morning, lunch, and then lab/clinical in the afternoon).

**Assuming they didn't change the schedule for the upcoming year**

You'll follow either the blue or the green schedule. Both schedules attend the lectures on Tues/Wed/Fri morning.

Thank you so much for this information.

Thank you so much, it’s really helpful.

hello all. Please I want to apply to the transfer route sept 2020. Does anyone have an idea of how competitive transfer is? As on how many seats are offered?

Yes, see here https://nursing.ucalgary.ca/future-students/undergraduate/curriculum

There is a 4-month break between term 6 and term 7 for transfers, whereas degree holders go through without a break.

Thank you.

Hey everyone. Just got accepted to the program. I am a transfer student from the same institution but different faculty. Is deposit not required for my application since I’m only changing programs(it does say so on my portal)? Need advice from those who are on the same boat! Thanks guys! And looking forward to meeting you all this January!!

I think there are 25-30 seats for fall as well but I feel like transfer GPA for fall is more competitive!

Hi everyone, longtime lurker, first time poster here. Thank you for sharing all of your experiences throughout this application cycle. I accepted my offer a few weeks ago for the Degree Holder Route and I am excited to meet you all in January!

I wanted to ask if anyone had any information on bursaries from the Faculty of Nursing. I know when I was researching admission, I came across a page that mentioned that due to the nature of our schedule (January start), we are not eligible for most of the awards offered. Because of this, the Faculty of Nursing had created a number of special grants & bursaries specifically for us. All of these awards did not require us to apply -- everyone was automatically considered as far as I understood.

Problem is, I can no longer find any information about these exclusive Faculty of Nursing financial awards. I am concerned that with the recent UCP cuts, they have quietly taken these awards away. Does anyone have any info here? Does anyone know someone who has received something like this in the past? How was financial need determined? If they are still planning to disburse these, then I imagine they are only using our GPA, since that is the only info they have on us without submitting any separate application.

Any info you all have is greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations to those who got in. I am starting the program this Jan as well. Just wondering if anyone is planning to get a student loan for the program. If you have, did you have to request the designation review form done just because the program is different from the other degree timeline.

Any input would be awesome. Thanks ?
