UNC ABSN applicants - Spring 2014

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hi everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for UNC's ABSN program starting in January 2014. There is another thread on here, but it looks like it's only about Duke's applicant pool. I know the application isn't due until August 10th, but when I applied to Duke for the fall I found talking to others in the same situation helped with my nerves! :)

I hope everyone's application is going well so far! Let's keep each other updated on how things are going throughout the process and share information as we go. Good luck to everyone!!

Well, I sick at this forum stuff. I made my last comment as a reply to a much earlier comment. Then I couldn't figure out how to delete it. Oy vey...

Hi, I know several people on here have been required to fill out the residency form as a part of their "to do list" I was wondering if any of those that have, have you received a decision and how long did it take after you had sent everything in to hear back? I was already granted in state status from UNC Wilmington about a year ago, but UNC-CH still required me to fill out and send in the necessary documentation. I just didn't know if this was something that was the admissions office decision or someone connected with the school of nursing. I had delayed sending the paperwork in because I didn't want to send it in to soon, and then I received an email from the school of nursing around the first of September telling me that my nursing school application would not be processed until they had received my residency form by a specific date. It has been about two weeks roughly that they have received the paperwork, and I am just wondering when I should expect a decision if anyone has also had to complete the residency form. Thanks

I filled out the residency form right after the application was due. I got my residency decision in the mail ~2-3 weeks after I submitted it. I want to say that it did not come from the SON, but from the Residency dept...though I'm not 100% sure. I can look when I get home if that would be helpful.

I've been wondering if your Seahawk username came from UNC-W. :) I have many friends that went there and still live in Wilmington!

Thanks @MrsBaze, that would be helpful :) I contacted the person I had been asking questions while filling out the application, but he is out of town til the 4th of October :( but ill see if its in the mail cause it will be 3 weeks tomorrow that's they received the paperwork. So hopefully its there, and yes I did go to UNCW- I received my bachelor degree from there and it's where I'll be moving from if I get into the program :D

@MrsBaze, I did check and I received my letter although it was written in a strange way compared to the way UNCW had worded theirs when I was granted status through them.. Did your UNC letter say something like " based on this application you should be considered a resident for tuition purposes? It makes it sound like I may but they don't know ;)

Mine also says "should". It does say it will be valid for spring 2014, which to me says we got in-state status. Maybe they just say it that way since we haven't been accepted (yet!). ;)

@MrsBase I know :) luckily we only have one more week possibly before we find out. Where do you live in NC? Is it close to Chapel Hill? I wish they wouldn't take so long considering there is a lot of things that need to be taken care of before the January start date like housing and financial aid, not sure what the financial aid packages look like for the ABSN program? I wish I knew.. And I'm curious if the cost of attendance document on the SON website is what we would be charged or the cost of attendance on the financial aid website? I wish I knew so I could plan on what to expect as the financial aid package for ABSN students :D

Hang in there! My advice is not to worry about those things until we know something. :) I live about 30 minutes from Chapel Hill, so if I get in I will be commuting. I've heard the traffic is horrible, so I will probably try to take a bus to avoid driving in it!

Yeah I'd probably have to do the same thing since chapel hill is probably ridiculously expensive granted I think Wilmington's expensive too haha :) considering the amount of students in wilmington you'd think rent would be reasonable, but nope ;) I know this week will drag one, the last few days is always like that.. Luckily ill be working til next Tuesday when I'm off again so ill have something to keep me busy and not be anxiously waiting by my mailbox or computer :D

Hey everyone, I applied earlier this year and was doing just fine waiting until 10/1 hit. Now I am searching allnurses.com to see if anyone has heard anything. Anyways- best of luck to everyone. I hope everyone gets in. Does anyone know what the notification process is? Electronic? Mail? Both? If the old lady graduated in 2006, then I am the grandpa of this chain (2004) haha.

@rower19 From what everyone is guessing based on previous cycles the decision notification will most likely be this week or the next but no later than the 1st of November. I believe the notification is both mail and electronic update on my unc but that the decisions of acceptance are quicker by mail just because from what I understand is the decision on my unc may not change, but this is really a guess, based on previous cycles :) hope this answers your question!

Alright everyone! Here's to hoping we hear something this week! Please post if you see a decision up on MyUNC. I know I will be checking every chance I get. Good luck!!
