UNC ABSN applicants - Spring 2014

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for UNC's ABSN program starting in January 2014. There is another thread on here, but it looks like it's only about Duke's applicant pool. I know the application isn't due until August 10th, but when I applied to Duke for the fall I found talking to others in the same situation helped with my nerves! :)

I hope everyone's application is going well so far! Let's keep each other updated on how things are going throughout the process and share information as we go. Good luck to everyone!!

I saw that yesterday on mine too, so I'm trying to finish it up this weekend. Lots of digging through files to find all the info!! Thanks for replying back. :)

Hi all!

I've completed my application as well, but I'm a little (OK, a lot) nervous. I've heard UNC places a huge emphasis on grades without looking at other factors. I don't have the best grades in my pre-reqs, but I do have a healthcare degree with fairly significant direct patient care experience and am almost done with a Master's degree so I'm hopng that makes up for some of the grades I incurred at the beginning of my college experience:) Good luck, everyone!

dcorynn2, I just wanted to let you know that UNC actually does evaluate the whole applicant and doesn't just look at your grades. I just graduated from there in May, and when people were applying to the traditional BSN, people with nearly 4.0's wouldn't be accepted and then someone with a 3.2 or something would get accepted, they actually REALLY like community service. So relax, breathe, and realize other factors come into play! and Good luck!

Anyone else ALREADY tired of waiting? Ahhh!!! November is going to crawl!

Thanks for the feedback TarheelGirlx3! That's good to know:)

Time keeps creeping by, but we're getting closer! I think I remember someone saying (maybe at an info session) that decisions would start going out around mid-October...but that may be my brain having wishful thinking! I did look back at the thread from last year and they started getting decisions around the second week of October. Here's to hoping this year is the same! If so, that's only about 3 more weeks!!

Hello Everyone! I'm new to this thread, but have read up some on a few of the older threads. Last year students heard back about the 2nd week of October. I don't want to get my hopes up, but it would be nice to hear early like that! I'm nervous as well. I have a good GPA that falls in the range of previously accepted students. I'm hoping they do look further into each candidate instead of focusing on grades. This is really my only chance at going because my husband is military and we'll leave basically right after this program is over. So, the UNC 24 mo program or Duke's ABSN won't work for me. Good luck to every and I hope we hear back sooner rather than later!

Hi everyone,

I'm counting down the days till the second week In October, when hopefully we'll all hear good news :) I've noticed in previous cycles that it was most people's second time applying , which makes me even more nervous because this is only my first time applying to UNC's ABSN Program. Is this everyone's first or second time applying? Just curious, to calm my nerves :/

Hi Seahawkgirl2011 - it's my first applying to UNC as well! Let's just hope and pray we're one of the lucky ones! :)

It's my first time applying as well! I was hoping first or second week of October as well, so the countdown begins! Good luck everyone!

It's my first time also!

Well, I'm older than you so what does that make me? ;)
