UN Reno or Las Vegas?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey guys! I've been looking into these two universities of Nevada. To be honest, I have no idea what the criteria is for a good nursing program. I live in California and I want to transfer somewhere far, but not too far so I thought of going to Nevada. I don't know if that's even smart. I am so lost. Any advice? If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Help my poor soul, I ask you.

I don't know about Las Vegas but I know that Reno is a great program. It's extremely competitive though, and solely GPA based. I also know that they will take Nevada residents before out of state first.

I currently go to the University of Nevada, Reno actually and know a lot about it. Orvis' program is extremely competitive and is primarily based off of GPA but not completely anymore. They've added an interview portion as well. Nevada High School graduates have a better chance at getting in but the way the advisors explained it is that they take 1/3 of Nevada high school graduates with the highest GPAs amongst Nevada high school graduates. 1/3 of second degree seeking students are the same way but they don't always have enough applicants to fill up those spots. And the last 1/3 is everyone else. They get about 150 applicants each semester and take 96 to interview and admit 64. If you don't get an interview, then you need to work on your GPA. If you get an interview but don't get admitted, you need to work on your interview skills.

And every hospital in Reno are wary of people coming over the hill from CA because it's easier to get a new grad job there or easier to get in to UNR. Very very wary.
