Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

KayBee09, I'm so sorry about the change in plans. :sorry: What you can do now is yes, get ready for the spring, and once nursing school starts focus all of your energy on the next two semesters so that time will pass, and he will be back before you know it!

I just found out today that I was accepted into another nursing program. I really wish UMSON was able to get through their applications sooner. I now will be, like many, paying a seat fee for the other school. :clown: UMSON is most definitely my first choice!!!!!

well it is good to have a backup plan! best of luck on UMSON!

@KayBee09 - Thank You!! I am very grateful to have a back-up plan.

vigor145, which school did you get into? :D It seems to me that a few of us here got into Towson as well, so I was wondering if you got in there? (Haha and like you, that is our backup plan! Feels sooo good to have that little bit of security.)

@littlemango - Your posts always make me smile!! :sarcastic:

It is at CCBC...............where I did my science pre-req's. They have a bridge program to Towson where you go to school for 2.5 years year round and end up with an Associates and a Bachelor's in nursing. The only way I will go to CCBC is if I get accepted into the bridge program.

I already have two Bachelor of Science degree's..........so I have spent a lot of time in school. And I was working full time while doing my pre-req's, so I only did a couple at a time and that took some time to finish.

I just want to get the ball rolling and get this done in the least amount of time possible. I plan on going back for an advanced degree after I get a couple nurse-working years under my belt.

So far I feel like I am always in school.

Oh! And if you do the bridge program between CCBC-Towson, you pay CCBC's rates :uhoh3:

Oh hey, that sounds awesome! Lower rates! :D How high are you going to go, regarding your degrees? Masters in nursing? Any specialty you have in mind at the moment? :geek: I know UMSON has some excellent graduate programs!

I want to be a Nurse Practitioner, which is now a PhD program at UofM. I am interested in Psych, specifically children. After nursing school I hope I can get hired onto a psych ward, and then work one day a week PRN on another floor to keep up my nursing skills, as psych utilizes a different skill-set.

What about you?

At the moment, I'd like to be an infusion nurse, or work with an IV team. I'd probably need some medsurg experience though, so I'm thinking my first years out of nursing school, I'll do that, and then get into infusion therapy. But this idea can change in the next two years! I'm also interested in wound care and maybe working in a cardiac cath lab. :)

Haha I'm extending the question to everyone now: After nursing school (and a few years experience in the field), is there a specialty you're interested in?

Specializes in NICU.

I'm interested in becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I am praying they still have Master's programs available as I really do not want to get my DNP. If not, then I guess I will have no choice but to become a doctor lol.

I recall when I went to Johns Hopkins NS Open House they stated all the NP Programs were shifting towards Doctorate degrees. I am with you @bcandygurl!! I'd much rather a Master's program. It's less time AND less money. Not sure if DNP's have to write discertations. Uggghhhhhhh
