Hi there! I applied to UMSON CNL for Fall 2020. I submitted my application and just finished submitting my supplemental materials. Hopefully I'll hear back soon about an interview.

Can anyone share any experiences they may have heard by the UMSON CNL program? Also, how are there NP programs?

Is it also....a lot of self studying involved?

Hi everyone! Trying to submit my application by the February deadline! Does anyone know - do you have to submit the basic part of the application before the links for the essay, and to request letters of, etc are available? Is that also how you submit transcripts? Thanks!

Hi! The first part of the application is very simple, just putting in all your demographic information and your previous school and work experience. I believe you have to finish the first part and then you can move on the second with the supplemental information. As for the transcripts, you have to submit them from your schools and have them mailed to the school of nursing. Good luck, I applied for Fall 2020 too! ?

Hi everyone,

I was accepted for the Spring 2020 cohort and chose to defer for a semester. So I will be attending in Fall 2020, if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

@Geralynn Hinton Congratulations on your acceptance. If I may ask what was the nature of your interview, did you participate in the Skype interview or were you physically there? Also, if you don’t mind sharing details, I would like to know your interview experience.

Hello!

I'm currently in the UMSON CNL Program and will be graduating in May! Hallelujah!! What can I tell you about this program?......

Is it hard? Yes. The first semester is a doozy! And from what I hear this is the case for most nursing programs. It is a lot of material to understand, analyze and apply. It is not like any other major or program so throw your previous experiences out the window. After the first semester things lighten up a bit but then ALL THE RESEARCH COMES!!! There's lots of support for writing papers and conducting evidence based research papers so take advantage of it. After that, smooth sailing.

What are the clinical experiences like? Honestly, you really can't get better than UMMC Shock Trauma, Johns Hopkins, Anne Arundel Medical Center, Walter Reid... to name a few. These are all clinical locations myself or my classmates have had. Now, for first and second semester the options are limited but the OB, Pediatrics, Psych, and Community clinicals are expansive. As is practicum. It makes a difference when you're applying to jobs as I'm learning now.

Living in Baltimore... I actually live in PG County and commute. The first semester it was really tough as I was on campus 4-5 days a week. However, after first semester it's more like 2-3 days a week. The summers are tougher depending on where your clincals are. I was in Bmore twice a week and Annapolis the other 2. From what I hear living in Bmore isn't so bad. The student housing is nice and very close to campus. Be sure to read the housing webpage to get some insight on safety in and around campus if that's a concern.

What else can I say???? I'm very happy to be done to get my life back. LOL. But honestly, I've had very positive experiences in the program and the fruit is coming to bare. I've had 4 job offers already and haven't even taken my mid-terms. That's UMSON! I'm open to questions.

@Genchi Thank you so much! My interview was actually through Skype. The interview itself was one-on-one and pretty conversational with a couple of the "basic interview" questions mixed in. "Why are you interested in nursing?" "Tell me about your background as it relates to nursing?" It lasted about 15-20 minutes total. Even though the interview took place on Skype, I still dressed professionally.
