UMSON CNL FALL 2020

Published

Hey,

Just reaching out to see if anyone is applying for the UMSON CNL program for Fall 2020. I know the application opened October 1st.

I have been accepted to other schools not in the area, but I have my heart set on Georgetown or UMSON. Haven't heard back from either. They're both really great schools, is anyone borderline about these two schools?

Hi @Callista! I applied to both Georgetown and UMSON. I submitted my application for Georgetown on January 10, and received an admission letter on January 16. I believe the latest date to find out about Georgetown is March 1. This morning I received an interview request email for UMSON. I have scheduled my interview for next Monday, February 24. I believe UMSON will send out acceptance letters through April 1. I agree with you that these are both great schools! Out of the two, I am leaning towards UMSON because it is more affordable for me. However, if I do not get accepted to UMSON, the plan is to attend Georgetown!

Thanks for the reply @jenhshin. Wow, you got a fast response from them. Congrats, I'm happy for you! I messed up on the Georgetown application and did not submit the transcript correctly until 1/30, so hopefully I do get a response back from them soon. I have sooo many regrets with how I handled applications haha. Should have done everything early instead of doing it a few days before the priority deadline.

Hi all! I applied to UMSON January 30th and also got an e-mail yesterday morning about an interview. I am going next Tuesday. They also sent me the essay prompt that we have to complete in the next 48 hours. Kind of nervous about it because I am not the best at on the spot writing lol.

I am totally in the same boat about the writing assessment. I've never been very confident in my writing skills, so this is probably the most stressful part to me about this whole process. I have until tomorrow evening to submit it, and I'm wondering if it might just be better to get it done and over with sooner rather than later. Honestly I'm just super nervous to do it!

Yes!!! I also have up until tomorrow night. I'm probably going to wait because I have off work tomorrow, but it is probably best to get it done ASAP and have the weight lifted off your shoulders. My mind is just buzzing on what the topic could be. I'm hoping that my mind doesn't draw a blank!

I just finished the writing assignment! It wasn't as bad as I thought. But it was definitely stressful to get down all your thoughts in an organized way in only 30 minutes! Hopefully they don't expect a flawless essay

@MaryBethEis I did mine today too. I agree, it wasn't horrible, but it brought back memories of the SAT essay, which I could have done without...I would definitely say I'm somewhat of a perfectionist so it was pretty frustrating seeing the clock run down and not being able to add in the millions of ideas running through my mind or suddenly thinking of better ways I could have worded something. From what previous applicants have said, I would think that they are just looking to see that we are able to write a basic essay. I assume the interview is a pretty large factor in acceptance, so now that you're done the essay I would focus on that! Good luck to you!

When do we think they'll start sending out decisions? I interviewed in late January!

@lam1130 According to previous forums, I think applicants find out around beginning of March, or around 2-6 weeks after you've interviewed. Of course, it may vary from year to year, so we will just have to wait and see. Would you be willing to share how your interview experience was? Did you Skype or go in person?

I did a Skype interview! I believe the interview went well. They asked basic interview questions like why nursing and why University of Maryland CNL. Then they asked other questions such as what you would bring to the program and stuff like that. It was pretty informal and only lasted like 20 min. I’m nervous because my science GPA is low (3.1) and I also only got 6 sentences in for the writing assignment because I was so nervous!

Hey everyone!

I submitted the application by the priority deadline of February 1st. My application status still says complete. How long did it take you guys to go from complete to committee review? I’m growing anxious since I finished 99% of the application by Jan 1 and had to wait for my recommendation Just before the deadline.
