UMSON CNL Fall 2019

Are you applying for UMSON CNL Fall 2019 program?

@jbrow459, I just received my acceptance to Spring 2019, but I have to defer to the fall for health reasons. Nevertheless, if anyone has any questions, please let me know!

I'm so glad you were able to defer! Do you know any stats from the Spring cohort? How many applicants, average GPA, etc....

@jbrow459 I believe that about 100 -150 apply for spring and about 50-60 get in. I'm not sure about other stats. I had a 3.0 in undergrad and a 3.8 science GPA and tons of clinical experience. But I applied about 30 days ago and received my acceptance letter on Tuesday of this week.

Congrats @cbarn005! So you slipped in at the last minute for the Spring cohort?! That's awesome. My big question is how long you had to wait for an interview request, but I think it's a moot point since your application was so last minute. Did you still have to interview?

@jbrow459 I still check this thread and am kind of surprised it's so quiet given that previous threads for applicants seemed so much more popular. When did you apply? What's your status?

@elegantcheese I had all my application materials in at the beginning of December. I was hoping that they would give some kind of response since it's rolling admission, but looking at previous threads, it looks like they don't start making contact with anyone until after the priority deadline. I've also applied to Georgetown. Have you applied anywhere else?

@cbarn005I'm curious, what is your clinical experience in, and what was your undergraduate major?

@jbrow459 I'm still working to finish up some prereqs, so UMSON is the only school I've applied to for now. Once I'm through Spring and Summer semesters and have everything complete, I'll look into applying to other programs if I don't get accepted. That's a good point that maybe they aren't interviewing until after priority deadline but in the webinar I attended back in December, Mia mentioned they are interviewing in Jan/Feb. I think these things always take more time and we just have to be patient. My application was ready by Dec 1 with the exception of final transcripts from my Fall class. My status changed to Committee Ready last Friday. Now fingers crossed I get an email to interview! This part is so hard.

@elegantcheese I've been committee ready since December 5th. It's very hard to wait! From what I gather, Georgetown is slightly less competitive than Maryland. It's about triple the price though.

@elegantcheese I want to say it took about 3 weeks

@jbrow459 you applied for spring or fall? That's good!! I'm hoping for good new for you!

@jbrow459 What's your background? Please keep us updated if you get an interview! I think I read on previous threads that they tend to go in first-come first-served order for offering interviews, so if you potentially get one, we may hear something soon after...

Also, does anyone know if your application materials roll over if you're rejected and plan on applying again?

@cbarn005 What was the interview like? Previous threads said it was more like a conversation. Can you give any examples of how someone could be successful vs how they could fail it?

@elegantcheese my bachelor's degree is in music, and then I have a second bachelor's in music therapy. I worked in inpatient and and outpatient mental health facilities as a music therapist which I'm hoping the admissions committee will find interesting!

I just started my last semester of prerequisites today. I have chemistry and statistics this spring. Hopefully, these classes will get me into a nursing program somewhere.
