UMSON CNL Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Are you applying for UMSON CNL Fall 2019 program?

@nurse2b2021 Agreed! Hopefully whatever happens will happen quickly so we won't need to stress for too long. That was my motivation to get my application in by the review date anyways. Maybe they will review them in waves and those people who have them in early will get acceptance/rejections sooner? I have no idea.

@elegantcheese quickly would be ideal, however from others I have read it seems to be a lengthy wait. That was my goal to get it done sooner rather than later in hopes to hear something sooner. I am just not sure if it will work that way. From reading other forums seemed liked it varied between each person based on interviews and time frames when they found out they were accepted. Have you applied anywhere else?

@nurse2b2021 Depending on what happens with UMSON, I may go to a local community college to get my RN and do the RN-MS pathway. I really want to get into UMSON because I really like the CNL component. What about you? Applying anywhere else?

@elegantcheese gotcha that makes sense. I applied to UMSON and Johns Hopkins. I thought about the community college RN route but in the end it ends up costing more money and time for what I am looking for. So I'm hoping to get into UMSON. If not I'll wait and apply for spring 2020. Are all your pre reqs done?

@nurse2b2021 I agree. If I don't get in for Fall, I'll apply again for Spring. I've got the required minimum prereqs done but still need Chemistry (which I'm taking next semester) and microbiology that I'll take in the summer. I wish I could take them all at once but life circumstances work out this way. Are yours done? What is your bachelor's degree in?

@elegantcheese awesome! I'm finishing up chemistry next week! I can't wait for it to be done with! I loved microbiology! Fun and interesting class in my opinion. Trust me you will be glad that you are taking them separately. All I will have left is A&P 2 and I am taking it in the Spring. My Bachelors is in Business Admin and I have my MBA with emphasis in Accounting. You?

@nurse2b2021 I'm finishing AP2 right now and although I'm happy the semester is over, I'm bummed the class is. I've really enjoyed AP 1&2! AP2 was a little more interesting than AP1. I'm sure you'll love it too. Yes, I'm glad to be taking Chemistry and Micro separately but am worried that taking Micro over summer will be intense. I'll just have to keep my head down and study hard. Not impossible, right?! My bachelor's degree is Advertising with an emphasis in Creative Strategy. My background is in marketing strategy, so as different from science as you can be. I've always loved science so it's been awesome getting back into it. Now I just hope that my background will be attractive to UMSON even though it's pretty different. Fingers crossed! Have you gone to any of the Open Houses or the online chats?

@ms.moxie Did you get your application submitted?

@elegantcheese I loved A&P 1 so I'm hoping I feel the same about the second one. I did Micro over this past summer 5 week accelerated course. It wasn't bad in my opinion. It's not impossible at all I'm sure you'll do great!!!! Advertising nice! Yes different but I'm in the same boat with an accounting background. Fingers crossed for sure! I went to the Open house in November. I loved the patient care simulation areas and just everything the school has to offer! How about you?

I just did the CNL online chat. Here is what I've learned! Hope this is helpful for whomever checks this thread.

Application review started TODAY (12/4)

Interviews will be in Jan/Feb with most decisions coming early March (at least that's the plan)

Once you submit the application, it takes about 2-3 weeks for the committee to review. If you qualify, you'll be asked for an interview. If you 'pass' the interview, you'll find out 4-6 weeks after your interview date.

On average, 200 - 250 students apply. Cohorts are typically 50 - 56 students

Approximately half of the applicants are asked for interviews

Approximately half of the interviews are accepted

Most students who are accepted have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 - 3.5 with a science GPA of 3.0 - 4.0

All prereqs must be completed by Aug 1 for admission to the Fall 2019 semester

Ok, that's all the info I have for now. Good luck everyone and keep us updated about your progress!

This thread is so quiet. Has anyone else applied?

Is this thread still active? I just came across it, and I would love to hear from others who have applied for the CNL at UMB.
