UMSON BSN Spring 2014

Published

Hi everyone! I created the BSN Fall 2013 topic, but I couldn't apply at that time due to family issues. So now I'm applying for Spring 2014! Anyone else applying? :]

I already submitted my decision, which is No. I want Shady Grove so bad! I want my BSN not my RN (even though I know I can do RN-BSN online).

I'm so nervous. I just want the decisions to come out already!!!

Once all admissions decisions are made, the admissions office will change the accepted applicant's status to either Admit Institution or Provisional Admit and then they attempt to call all accepted students as well as mail an official acceptance letter. The calling process takes a couple of days and students are called in no particular order. I think they just split the list up then call as they can. One thing you all can do right now is make sure that the phone number and mailing address you completed on your application are correct. Also know that every semester a fair number students are taken off the Wait List and accepted. How many will there be? I might be able to tell you if I knew how many will reject an offer from UMB in favor of another school and how long they take to let us know. Best of luck to you all! Stay positive!

Grey Lady, do you have a guess when the admissions will be out?

Holy Moly! I can't take it anymore! :woot:

I am curious if anybody has an idea of what the typical BSN student schedule is like at UMSON? I would like to brace myself! Ha!

KNW- First of all, I have a serious planning neuroses and had to see what I was in for. WIth that being said, I was looking at the schedule for fall classes to kind of get an idea of scheduling. I just plugged in the courses from the "sample plan of study" which is listed as NURS 304, 315, 320, 333.

I don't know if we are grouped into cohort-esque situations (or if these are definitely the classes we take 1st semester) and just go with whatever schedule or if we get to pick and choose class times. I mapped out a mock schedule where I had class and labs from 8-5 mon wed and fri and 9-12 on tues with thurs off but I have no idea if that is an option.

Schedule of courses found here (https://www.simsweb.umaryland.edu/pls/SIMS/bwckschd.p_disp_dyn_sched)

Sample Plan of Study found here (BSN | University of Maryland School of Nursing)

Chelsea13- I did the same thing!! I like to plan too! :)

Chelsea and KNW -

If you look at the schedule of courses from Spring 2013, you'll see they are similar to the Fall 2013 schedule. I think it's fair to assume that the Spring 2014 schedule won't deviate too much from these two semesters, but I guess you never know how things could change year to year.

I noticed that summer courses are available. Does anyone know if this is an option for BSN students? Also, I find the tuition info. page very difficult to interpret. Does anyone have a better link to tuition info. than this one? Or, does anyone have an accurate estimate of total cost?

If I'm accepted, I really need to work while going to school. Does anyone know if people are able to successfully do both? Does UMMC often take on BSN students as techs?

Thanks!

Current CNL student here but I think I can answer some of your questions. I do not believe summer courses are an option for BSN's. That being said, UMMC has a summer internship-like program that you would able to do that us CNL cannot because we have summer courses. Info about that here Nursing Fellowships For Your Career Development In Nursing - UMMC | University of Maryland Medical Center under Student Nurse Residency Program.

No help on the tuition. I have no idea how to calculate it myself and have never found a better breakdown of the costs.

As for working, I'm assuming you mean full time? I don't think I could work full time, but I am not sure what the BSN course load is like in comparison to what I am doing. That's going to be a very individual thing.

Hey sarah

Here's what I found out from the information session:

They are extremely vague when it comes to the bottom line cost. My friend started this past spring and estimated it was ~5500 for the semester. As far as working goes they do not recomend working full time at all if going to school full time (even if yu were to work part-time they suggest less than 20hrs/week). Working fulltime and school parttime is doable.

They said BSN students can take summer classes but yy won't finosh any faster (still have to do two fall and spring semesters) but the credit load would be lighter.

Hope this helps! And please excuse my typos I'm doing this on my phone

To add to the summer class/ cost discussion, when I was talking with the dean, we can take summer classes, they are an added cost however. Like the previous poster said as well, they won't shave off a full semester but make your loads lighter.

I did a mock too. I chose a schedule for only a 3-day week. I have a long commute.

Because the 2nd semester is heavy, I think I'll opt to take the Technology class online. Hopefully it's offered online in the summer. It'll be my only class since I decided that summer classes are not a good option for me.
