UMD CNL FALL 2018

Published

Hi guys! I know it's a little early... but just wanted to start a thread for those who are applying to the UMD CNL program for fall of 2018. I just submitted my application!

Hello All,

I just completed my interview this morning. I am confident I did well. Seger, my interviewer mentioned there are 250 applicants and of those only about 50 will be accepted. I should have asked how many applicants are interviewed and of the those interviewed how many are accepted.

She asked me towards the end am I waiting to hear from other schools and I said yes. She mentioned that I should have an answer in 2 weeks. Good luck to everyone

Isn't the cohort between 100 and 140, though? So how can they only accept 50?

I have no idea. Cohort is synonymous with students correct. That's what she said I am not sure.. Have you heard anything @JulietMei

Yes, I meant the class of students. Thanks for the info! Sounds like there is a lot of competition to get in. I interviewed on Valentine's Day and my interviewer asked me if I was OK waiting until March 1 to get my admissions decision, and I said yes. I haven't gotten it yet, so I contacted admissions, and was told that it might take until early April.

I didn't know those were the numbers, but I did know the cohorts are usually between 50-60 students...so I guess that is accurate then. I did not realize it was so competitive either. I also interviewed February 14th as well. JulietMei, did you call today?

Aapage87, did you inform them about the essay? Thanks for the info also! and JulietMei, you may be thinking of JHU's cohort size which is about 100-140. I PM'ed you a question about Hopkins vs UMD fyi!

@ltaylor19 No, I was thinking about it when asked is there something about your application you want us to go over again. I decided to focus on the positives in my application. My letter of recommendation, academic achievement etc

Yes, it is really competitive but keep in mind that maybe the 250 applicants may not be asked to come in for an interview. So the pool is smaller. I think those who invited to the interview shows the application was sound. I could be wrong and everyone gets an interview

Aapage87, Ah understandable! I was just thinking about that. But yeah, you're right - everyone does not get an interview! I did an information session a few weeks ago and I believe they said around 100 are interviewed, and they accept 50-60 students (I wrote 150 in a previous post, but I'm pretty sure they said 100...I found my notes from it now haha). Of course those numbers could change if this is a bigger applicant pool than previous years maybe? But congrats to those who have received interviews, and good luck to everyone still waiting. :) Hopefully we hear something soon!! Early April seems like awhile away...

Also, it looks like there is an information session tomorrow. If anyone here plans on going to that, maybe you can clear up some numbers for us.

@ Aapage87, I am glad that you enjoyed your interview. I was told that Fall 2018 has more applications than normal. The professor who interviewed me said, CNL program only has 50-ish seats for Fall 2018 cohort. and my decision will release within March.

@ltaylor19 and @JulietMei, I wish both of you get your decision soon, since you guys were interviewed 2 weeks ago :) Maybe tomorrow you will get the decision !!!!!

Good luck :)

Did anyone go to the information session?

Unfortunately no- I am going crazy waiting to hear anything :(

I think I have to wait a couple weeks. However I totally understand your anxiety.. I am waiting for Georgetown decision as well...
