UMB FALL 2011

Published

I will be applying for the Fall 2011 program at UMB really really soon. I was wondering if anyone else was doing the same...? I'm really nervous about applying because Anatomy really kicked my butt last semester and I ended up getting a C (even though I ended up doing really well on my other science courses). Now, I'm losing hope. Anyone feeling the same?

i have seen some of your post and was trying to figure out how to contact you. do you know anything about when decisions will be made for the FNP program at UMBC for Fall 2011...the anxiety is killing me. thanks

Im not sure they have been saying by the end of April for everyone

Hi everyone,

I am new to allnurses, so apologies in advance if I am posting incorrectly. I've been accepted to UMD Shady Grove Fall '11 for the BSN program (congrats to everyone who has been accepted!!!).

I am considering some other programs (Hopkins and Georgetown mostly), and I have a lot of questions about what it's like to be a UMD student. Just wondering if there are any current or former Shady Grove students out there who would be willing to have a chat with me. Just reply to the thread and I'll send you my email (or I think you can private message me? like I said, clueless).

For the purposes of the thread: would living in Silver Spring area and commuting by car be feasible for most of the clinical sites? I'm worried about having to drive to Frederick or Annapolis, which would be pretty far.

I'd love to hear lots of opinions about pluses and minuses of the program!

Thanks!!

whoops..accidentally posted twice. sorry!

I could potentially be starting class with you this fall, so I don't have any info on what its like to be a student but...

I think commuting to SG daily with a weekly clinical that could be in Frederick or Annapolis is alot better than daily trips to Baltimore or Georgetown.

Then you add in the cost. They are all great programs, but UMB takes the cake for affordability.

niburs

was just checking the sight to see if new acceptance was finalized yet...congrats to those that are in.

I am 3rd semester BSN at shady grove...

no time to reply to all your questions in detail right now...

silver spring is great location for clinicals. some are in DC, many in shady grove, occasional in Balt or fredrick. they change every semester so it is difficult to say for sure...i will mention that you do need a car (some folks try to carpool, but it's not easy), I have tried the public transit route from pg county, can be done but difficult. and you don't always get your first pick for location

the program is excellent. I am a second degree student and am overly impressed with the attention we receive at shady grove.

i can't send individual emails - system won't let me...i know they have aquota of miinimum posts before we can do so.

I cant even imagine all the priceless climical time you all are receiving in the hospitals in DC Balt... makes me wish I had gone there for my nursing to begin with as opposed to a hopeful RN to BSN thru UMB

In reference to niburs.....

I am going to be in the Fall 2011 class at Shady Grove too!!! I live in silver spring too and would love to hear about current/former student's experiences at shady grove BSN program!!! As far as the traffic goes...commuting to Frederick or Annapolis is actually fairly traffic free....much so in comparison to commutes into DC or Baltimore! Im so excited to meet everyone!

So I'm going to be at the Baltimore campus and I was wondering if anyone knew about how to find a house or apartment or in general what the living situation was like. I'll probably find this out when my packet arrives in the mail but I was just curious what others had done in the past.

To BSNbear and Cooper1012:

BSNbear, thanks so much for your comment!! Any info is really helpful. And Cooper1012, it's exciting to hear from potential future classmates.

In case either of you would like to chat more privately, I created a gmail address: [email protected] (so I wouldn't have to post my personal email on a public forum).

If there are any other current/former students out there who would be willing to chat, please feel free and send an email. There could be a Starbucks egift in it for you :)

Any applicants hear anything yet this week?
