Ok guys, this is the new thread for everyone who is applying to the UMB FALL 2010, BSN or CNL Program . Good luck to all.
Has everyone's status gone: Complete Ready for Review?
:yeah:Glad everyone's status is changing to committee ready! I know if you are accepted that will change to admit institution I believe, wondering what will it change to if you are not accepted? I am super nervous now! Wanting to see that I am accepted, and really dreading to see it if I am not! The anxiety.....:anpom: Crossing my fingers that we all get accepted!
There are Open Houses for BSN and CNL prospective students at both the Baltimore and Shady Grove campuses this Saturday morning (see these websites for details - http://www.nursing.umaryland.edu and http://www.shadygrove.umd.edu). If you have not visited your campus before, this is a really good day to do it. I will be there at Shady Grove as will someone from Admissions and some (hopefully) current or graduated students. I would love to meet some of you!
I believe we are supposed to wait until just before beginning the program to take CPR because our certification has to remain valid throughout the duration of the two-year program. I don't know about you, but I think that is great advice; I'm not interested in spending the hours to re-cert during my last semester of nursing school! As far as the shots, I will wait for more information about what we need from the school and take care of it then.
Good luck everyone! I hope we hear back timely this semester; I know the Spring cohort was pretty upset about how long they had to wait for a decision. Here's hoping for the best for all of us!
:)
You will want to take your CPR early to mid-summer so that it will not expire while you are still in school. It will be good for two years - you want it to expire after you graduate. You can find the medical history report form at http://www.umaryland.edu/health and can start on the immunizations listed there. You will probably need them for any other nursing school and most of them are good for life. I know that tetorifice has to be done within ten years and that the two PPD TB skin tests must be done within the last 12 months.
Also, you can get most immunizations at a Minute Clinic in the larger, newer CVS stores without an appointment.
Thanks for all the tips! So we are expected to take care of the CPR on our own? I just know that some schools have the whole group take it at the same place and time at the start of the semester. I guess I will start thinking about that for july or so. Thanks!
Generally, students are on their own but at Shady Grove we are trying to set up CPR classes this summer for incoming students. We hope to get information out in the packet but if not will contact students via email.
JUST BE SURE that you don't take any class other than American Red Cross Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider and that is exactly what is on your card. Nothing else is accepted regardless of what the folks at CPR Pro or other places tell you.
Also, don't wait too late to sign up - there have been instances of classes canceling because not enough people signed up and you do not want to run out of time. One student I know was canceled out of three classes and just barely got it done.
