I applied and just received a call for interview at UMass Memorial for their New Grad Residency Program. Has anyone been through this residency program? And if so, can you offer any particulars (both positive and/or negative). I've searched through the allnurses site and was only able to find much older forums from '10-'12.
Thank you & cross posted!

I was hired into their new grad program a few years ago...
Pros:
-decent pay
-union
-major hospital
-3 months with a preceptor
-a job as a new grad
-lots of opportunity to pick up OT once you are off orientation
-no rotating shifts
-the program itself is fairly organized
Cons:
-depending on the unit, there will be a lot of unsafe staffing issues
-you're in Worcester
-friday classes during orientation are long and boring (but the people running the classes are super nice).
-outdated processes for paperwork (some orders are still handwritten)
-every department has their own program for documenting and none of them communicate
-there is not enough (i.e. none) communication regarding where you stand and how you can improve/lacks constructive criticism.
Overall I think it has been a good learning experience and out of the group of new grads that were on my unit, 4 of 5 still remain. It's rough though, it truly is. My advice no matter where you end up working is to stay humble, ask A LOT of questions and maintain enough confidence that the senior nurses do not eat you alive. Oh, and be nice to the techs.

What is the pay like? I interviewed on Match Day and I'm really curious what they pay us!

I also interviewed on match day (round 4 on 7/31/16) they told us we should find out this week (8/8-8/12). I still haven't heard anything. Have you?
I got an email saying I was selected but that's all I know!
congrats! Do you know what group you were in for match day? (they had 4 rounds of 30 people each).
What unit were you hired on? When did you find out? Did you already work at umass as an aid or do your practicum there?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm freaking out whether or not I got in.
I was July 29th. They didn't tell me what floor, it was just a generic email that said I was selected to join the team and more information would follow. I got that email on Friday. No I did not work at UMass or have any clinicals there. I was told by one of the managers that anyone who made it to match day was hired, it was just a matter of which floor they were going to be assigned to. So check your email and spam folders! The email came from Suzie
Hmm I was July 29th too but haven't heard anything. Checked junk & clutter folders, nothing. Even searched my email for her name/address.
Did they at least say salary or if it was full time? I heard a rumor that getting into the new grad program doesn't mean you have a job at the end. Perhaps that's why there's no unit info?
Know anyone else from match day that got in? When did they hear?
I called them to find out salary because I have another job offer that I need to notify by the end of the week. So I wanted to know in order to make my decision. I asked them about that rumor and they said that we are guaranteed a job after the program, obviously unless you completely fail at it, which they have never had happen.
I do know three other girls who got emails on Friday as well.
I personally know which unit I am on because my interview went really well and they told me in person that they were offering me a job so I could put them as my top choice.
BUT the people who received emails saying they were being offered a position do not know what shift or whether they are full-time.
If I were you I would email Suzie. I, when I spoke to her on the phone she said email was the best way to get in contact with her. I was also told by the people running the Match Day that we would be hearing whether they decided to hire us or not, so even if you did not get hired (which I doubt) you should have heard something.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Congrats again! Just my curiosity, you don't have to answer both or even one, but what is the salary & what unit were you hired on?
The people who got emails, do they know their unit?
I wonder if they're still notifying people & that's why I haven't heard one way or another or if I slipped through the cracks/ under the radar.
Either way I'll shoot her an email. Thanks again
It's $30.06 base salary with $3 for evenings and $5 for nights. I got hired on a cardiac floor, but again nobody else knows their units. Let me know how it goes!
Oh nice, which cardiac floor? & that's better salary than I expected.
