UMass Amherst ABSN 2011

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hey - is anyone else out there applying for UMass Amherst's ABSN for Fall 2011? Apps are due next week - just wanted to connect with others applying and get a thread started! :yeah:

Hey Edwin, and everyone,

I'll be attending the UMass 2nd bachelor's program this September as well. I'm excited to get started and look forward to meeting everyone on June 29th at orientation.

Here's a little about me:

I'm a 41 year old male. I live with my partner, Michael, near Northampton, MA (about 30 minutes away from Umass). I have a B.A. in theatre from Middlebury College in VT, and an MFA from the University of Florida. After about 10 years in show biz, I switched gears and went into marketing. For the past 6 or 7 years, I've been a freelance copywriter. I also perform occasionally as a juggler and magician. :p

I'd love to learn more about my classmates, so let's keep this thread going.

Thanks,

Dan

Hello Dan,

When did you received the decision letter? i applied for fall 2011 also and up to now i still havent gotten anything in the mail (i guess maybe i was not accepted specially if you say that orientation day is june 29th) . They had said originally that they would send decision letters during week of may 11th and up to now , nothing , i called but always get the voicemail.

Hi Kosmo ,

It sounded like you did not recieve your letter yet , i was wandering if finally you got one? Me , i still havent received one neither, makes me nervous that some people received theirs since end of may , i am starting to wonder if i havent received mine because i didnt get accepted (its a possibility i guess)

I received my acceptance letter on May 27th.

I got mine on the 27th as well.

P.S. Dan-any idea if we need to put down a deposit on the 29th?

I haven't gotten any info that suggests that we need to make our first payment on the 29th.

Nope still waiting and wondering the same things you are.....

I have been accepted into the program as well! I received my letter on June 3. I can't wait to meet everyone on June 29th. I believe on the 29th they will also bring in a rep from financial aid to discuss our options.

Here is a little about myself. I have a bachelors in business mangement from Elms College, I live in Ludlow, MA with my husband and two daughters the ages of 3 and 4. The school is about half hour away from my home.

Is there anyone that knows someone that has been through this program that have children? Just looking for some feedback on juggling them and school.

Looking forward to seeing everyone bright and early tomorrow. : )

-Dan

I just accepted so I'll be seeing everyone in Sept! I am a 24 yo female from CO and I have an undergrad BA in Physiology. I am very excited to move to MA and start school!

Congrats to all of you on your acceptance! I'm looking to apply next year. I was wondering if anyone had any admissions advice? Did you all have strong GPA's from your first BA/BS? What did you average with your prereqs? Did you have prior medical experience (i.e. CNA). Any info would be appreciated!

So did anyone NOT get in? Lol....I was hesitant to post this after everyone was discussing their acceptances but I was rejected :( I'm really happy for everyone who got in - especially those who will be commuting or relocating to the area. I grew up in Northampton, about 15ish minutes from Amherst and the area is really fantastic (I guess I'm biased though lol) Anyway, I don't know if it is worth applying again for next year, nothing has really changed for me except that I finished the classes I was taking in the Spring with the same grades I had at midterm when my teachers emailed admissions as they were requested. I had a 3.6 GPA from NYU where I went for my undergrad but my average in my science pre-reqs, which I took after I graduated, was lower, only a 3.2 which I'm not surprised was too low for the program at UMASS. I'm going to apply to some associate's programs for next year and if that doesn't work I may just move on to something different - I don't think I could handle retaking any of my science classes again even to improve my GPA :(

Anyway - congrats to everyone who got in and good luck!!!
