Hi guys!
I'm currently completing my undergrad+prereqs to apply in the next year to UM's ABSN program for the Spring 2019 session (Apps due next august). I know it's a very premature thread but I thought there might be other applicants for the Spring 2019 session who are already freaking out about apps like me. If any students who were accepted for previous threads could share their experience, tips, or stats here that would be incredibly helpful.
We got this.
Hi guys! I went to UM for undergrad. A few of my friends applied to the program for Fall and 3/4 were denied and all attended UM so I'm pretty nervous. A teacher of mine here is on the admissions committee for the program and said they primarily look at GPA (Overall, Science, and Pre-Req), they barely take into account your extracurricular, etc. because they just want to see if you can handle a rigorous course load in 12 months based on your grades.
I have a 3.63 overall GPA, 3.5 Science GPA, and 3.65 PreReq GPA. He told me stats around here are good! But it depends which applicants are applying. The Summer semester had a lotttt more applicants than normal and they denied more than usual. I'm not sure how many applicants they have for the Spring because it is rolling until August. He also told me they put everyone's info in an excel document and just look at numbers -- 4.0 accepted first and so on. (If you do talk to someone they'll tell you they take everything into account, but not really.) So... we'll see!!!!!
But honestly, it just depends on how many people apply I think. The summer just had an abnormally high amount of applicants so they were most strict on their acceptances I think. It also depends where you went to school he told me... a 3.3 at Harvard will most likely be accepted over a 3.5+ from UM. Also, this is just based off of one person who I know. So it could be a slightly biased opinion, I don't know.
Omg that gave me a heart attack, I have a 3.48 overall and my pre-reqs are a 3.65 which are pretty meh if it's all based on grades. But I'm coming from an Ivy League and half of my pre-reqs were taken here. So hopefully that gives me some point boosters. Although, I still hope that they take extra-curriculars and essays into account.
Hi everyone. Just found this thread. I just applied today. Let me know when all you early birds get your acceptance letters! I have applied to UM FIU and Nova. So fingers crossed. my overall and science pre reqs are 3.46 so that's low. Hopefully they take into account my volunteering and healthcare experience. And my teas score is 92.7.
I cant believe I have finally applied I've been working towards this forever
Hi everyone, I applied two weeks ago. My application was returned since I didn't enter my transcripts they wanted. Anyway, I corrected the mistake and hopefully NursingCAS will have everything by Friday. Do you know how much it takes for NursingCAS to send the application to UM? My overall GPA is 3.7 and pre-reqs 4.0. Still missing two (Nutrition and PSY 101) that I plan to finish during Summer 1 semester. I hope that won't be a big issue since they are already backed up. Good luck to everyone!
