hello, I am new to this site and am interested in getting into the medical field.....I was trying to decide between ultrasound and nursing. I've heard ultrasound is a tough field to get hired in, but nursing is in big demand. Is this true? i've researched alot and found the salary to be similar. my friend is an rn and likes it. what appealed to me the most was the scheduling. I would love the idea of working 3 longer days as opposed to 5 eight hour days. and i love the option of working the "graveyard shift" as i am a night owl. i just wonder which position is more stable now in this economy. any info is greatly appreciated.

Although it is not easy to find jobs in the current economy, in general there will always be a better opportunity in nursing. There are only so many avenues for jobs in US. There are many employers, in many different types of nursing, for the nurse to choose from.

I agree, while the market for nursing right now is tough, it is because of the recession while ultrasound is ALWAYS a difficult to find jobs in, even when the economy is good. One of the reasons I love nursing is the overnight shift (I have no problem staying up late plus night diff =D). Plus I think that nursing is more of a variety than ultrasound. If you don't like what you're doing you can switch, with ultrasound, it's the same thing everyday.
