UK vs. Philippines

Published

hello everyone!

i'm interested in applying for a student visa for uk, but then after reading the comments/experiences of nurses who are already in uk, i got discouraged and now i'm not sure if i'll pursue my application through aima to be an nvq 4 student.

now, i'm re-considering my previous plan which is to gain one year of hospital experience here in the philippines then apply for the onp program that the uk universities offer.

what do you think is the best thing to do? i'm a newly registered nurse and now i'm in my 3rd month of hospital training and i've got one more month to decide what would be my next step. will i still apply for the nvq 4 course then apply for an assessment to nmc after the course or it's better to gain hospital experience first?

any comments/suggestions will be so much appreciated.:o

god bless everyone...

To all of those who are from the Philippines and are planning to get student visa, pls dont push it through. I dont normally post here in allnurses.com. I only read anything here. Before, i read a post asking about student visa, he/she was from the Philippines. Dint even bother to post my view or what i have learnt. Till i saw the extent of what happened to those nurses who came over here. I am posting now to make you aware.

If your student visa expires how do you plan on staying in the UK? Once visa is expired unless you change status to tourist you are expected to leave. Staying illegally and caught will result in big issues and deportation

Do not get married just to stay in the UK, this is really frowned upon by UK immigration and will check it out.

Also like to add posting these type of intentions on a public Internet forum is not wise, getting married for the sole purpose of getting a visa is illegal and if immigration track you down any visa you hold or apply for will be at risk

thanks for the reply i am thinking to backout or to pursue.i have friends in london they got a good job they might help me stay in uk once my student visa expire or i might get married in uk to get a resident permit. what do you think po?

wow, I feel sorry for your future target, uhm sorry, I meant to type spouse....

Oh dear, where do we start. Firstly it may help to get yourself properly qualified, a 1 year PN aide is not going to get you very far in the UK. We have enough of our own citizens who have minimal qualifications and need work without giving jobs to those from outside our country. Your student visa is just that a student visa, once it's expired you will have to leave the UK. I think you will find that you'll get a similar answer from Canada as well.

If you want to work abroad your going to need marketable skills, from what you say you don't have these at the moment. I'm not even going to touch on your plan to find a wife while your in the UK, the very notion is just very nasty, and I think Silverdragon, Fiona and Sharrie have covered that aspect of your plan.

If your dream is to truly work overseas then my suggestion would be to go back to college and get a qualification that would be useful in other countries, it may well take a few more years but unless you have something that employers want and can't get in their own country your going to find yourself out of luck.

There is job freeze here all the time. Working visa is not an option. If there is job vacancy, it will be given first to citizens here. If they cant get anyone here then they will hire from the european countries, if still they cant get one to do the job then they will recruit outside Europe. With the ongoing recession here, they wont be hiring outside UK. It has to be someone who has a special skill and badly needed to fill in the job post or a job that no one would really want to do it. At this time, Uk is not your option. Your agency is only after your money. Pls dont push it through.

oh stormforce you want me to study in college again to have job opportunity in abroad what ia stupid theory is that, sounds like your boasting of your self hey listen whatever profession you gained here in philippines isnt recognized to the standard education in western country you must have to study again to level up there education standard if you want to work by your profession in the western country.you stop giving advised your advised isnt work to me.but anyway thank you mayflower2000 of your optimistic advise

Wow..... you think the advice to go back to college and study to improve your opportunities to work abroad is a stupid theory but you are happy to go to the UK on a student visa and then try to do something illegal like find someone to marry and stay in the UK. Sorry but that is a stupid suggestion.

Nursing is always changing and I know many many nurses that have gone back to school to leant, some it has been full time courses where others it has been part time and all to improve the care that they give. You are looking at abusing a system that will make it harder for people who genuinely go through proper channels.

At no time has anyone mentioned that professions gained in the Philippines is substandard but there have been issues in Canada where Philippine nurses with a BSN had their training evaluated and found to be at the level of a LPN in one province but we have also seen Philippine nurses go through the same process and only have to do a SEC assessment. I used to assist Philippine nurses adapt to working in the UK hospital I worked in a few years ago and we did have some issues with some of them however with support and guidance these issues was resolved and they became a good working member of the team, however things have changed and unemployment in the UK is at its highest it has been for several years and like many other countries priority HAS TO be given to their own citizens first.

to neznaj, the OP, if you can hold on to that hospital RN position, i think that would be the wisest thing to do. your hospital experience will be your key in finding employment abroad. stick to it as long as you can and leave it only for a better RN position. with the competition for RN jobs being so tough at the moment, and probably will even be tougher in the coming years, the experience you will have gained will be to you advantage. don't even think that one year experience under your belt is enough. just think of our filipino nurses trying to get a spot in hospitals. it is ridiculous and pathetic for nurses to pay hospitals to gain work experience, but it is happening in our dear country because there is just too much nurses. I mean, to do volunteer work is acceptable, but to pay the hospitals monthly, to gain work experience/training certificates is just outright ridiculous. think of the tens of thousands other RNs who would give arm and leg to be in your place. surely your sacrifice will bear fruit soon. and oh yes, forget about NVQ.

You have a 1 year practical nursing course, that's not recognised in the UK or any other country outside of the phillippines so I'm not boasting just being practical. In the UK, that qualification wouldn't allow you to nurse because it's not the standard that the Nursing and Midwifery Council requires. If you had a 3 year nursing degree with experience in critical care or theatres then I'd be saying a completely different thing as that's a transferable qualification with skills in areas that we need in the UK.

If you want to work abroad you need to make yourself marketable, a 1 year PN is not marketable. You may not like the message but it doesn't mean it's not the truth. Finding work in most countries is difficult so the more qualifications and experience you have the better chance you will have at finding work.

So yes, I would advise you go back to college and get a qualification that other countries would want if you truly want to work abroad, otherwise your going to be classed as unskilled labour and most countries have enough of their own citizens who fall into that category. Or you could just continue being angry at sensible advice and spend your days in the Philippines wishing for a different life, it's your choice.

well well, i am already in NEW ZEALAND NOW HEHEHEHE!!! i go hired in the nursing home.....i told you your advised doesnt work to everybody.

New Zealand is not the UK. What work visa do you have for New Zealand? You do have one don't you? Plus what capacity are you hired in because I doubt there is a practical license for the Philippines and usually country want you to be licensed
