Uk for Uk?

World UK

Published

Hi all,

Sorry if this offends anyone, but over the last few months, all I've seen in the UK forum is how people are wanting to go to the US! I understand why you might want to do it... but I personally want to hear from people in the UK about UK nursing. Is it so bad that every person from the UK on this forum wants to go to the US?

Come on, prove me wrong!

We have a play therapist, yes play (as in does colouring with kids and blows bubbles for distraction) who was recently banded as band 5!!!!!! QUOTE]

What, only a Band 5?!! He/She should ask for a review - surely mileage for a 6 there with a bit of fine tuning!! :chuckle

Cheers

Isn't AFC fun ;)

I want to work in the UK. Is that your interest as well ?

Specializes in ICU,ANTICOAG,ACUTE STROKE,EDU,RESEARCH.

No ,NONE OF ANY OF OUR OTHER PROFESSIONAL STAFF HAVE ENTRY LEVEL AT BAND 5-ONLY NURSES.PTs ,RADIOGRAPHERS,OTs etc etc MIN BAND 6

I AM WELL AWARE OF THE PURPOSE OF AFC -THAT'S WHY I DIDN'T VOTE FOR IT.HOPE I HAVE MADE MYSELF CLEAR ENOUGH HERE

OH AND BYE THE WAY I THINK SOMEWHERE THERE WAS SOME FALSE ECONOMY AS AFC HAS COST OUR TRUST 5 MILLION POUNDS.

AND OF COURSE PEOPLE WINNING CLAIMS FOR UNEQUAL PAY WILL COST THE DOH A FORTUNE

CHEERS!

I wonder if there is a place where I can complain that a play therapist got band 5? Anyone got any ideas?

I was told she got that band because she has a degree is child psychology... which got me completely and utterly steaming! I have a degree in Sociology, many of our nurses have health related degrees other than their nursing qualifications, yet they are not taken into account... how about equality? Does BA (Hons) DipHE (Adult) RN mean nothing for me as a professional, yet BA means a professional banding for a non-qualified member of staff!!!!!!!

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

Not that clear at all. I take it your argument is based on just your Trust? I believe that your original statement was along the line of no other professional group are entering on Band 5. If, like me, you prefer to take a national view of things to base a judgement on, you need to do a bit of background work to clarify things. Just some recent Radiographer vacancies at Band 5:

I've also discussed these issues with the various AHPs involved. A Google search for Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist/SLT+Band 5 gives enough evidence to make myself clear.

Any thoughts on the play therapist at band 5 then, OG?

I didn't vote for it either and have only met one person who did!! I should have added 'in the long-term' to my statement about how it was all set up, although I'm sure the planners set out for it all to happen that way and it's all gone a bit wrong - 5 years in the making and completely missed the point of rewarding staff for what they do. As I said before, it's pants.

Are you aware of potential claims for unequal pay? It would be interesting.

any thoughts on the play therapist at band 5 then, og?

the national profile for play therapist has factor 2 scoring a 4 and asking for nneb + experience. it's a band 4.

are you ready for this one?.........

play specialist higher level/team leader has factor 2 scoring a 5 (as in all rn posts as a mimimum) asking for 'experience to degree level'. along with the other factors, this then means that the post is a band 5.

play specialist/team manager gets a band 6!!

you can have a look at the play therapist national profiles (pdf) on the link below and i'm sure you'll agree that they're all fair :uhoh3:

no grounds for complaint, i'm afraid. they will be well paid bubble blowers from now on.

it's pants i tell you.

cheers

Think there are so many probs with the whole thing that it's impossible to pin it down to one.

Many of our Nurse Specialists met the criteria for skills and knowledge band 6 but not for many other aspects but were scored to match in my opinion.I was given 2 for mental effort (matching the national profile)despite qualifying in job description re type and length of concentration/interuptions etc. This also what our porter scored.I am appealing.CNS in other hospitals in our area all got 7s.Curious to know what theatre nurses and ITU Es everywhere got as here they were banded 6s.Cannot understand how a theatre staff nurse can have so much freedom to act or resposibility for patient care.makes you feel like you've done it all for nothing- I was an F grade in theatres 7 years ago.I do not think they have done themselves any favours but only time will tell.

Theatre nurses are scored exactly the same as other nurses at Band 5 in Freedom to Act and Patient Care - I suppose they still have to APIE care in their area (not just scrub) :uhoh21: . The key to Band 6 is, as you've stated above, the word 'specialist' which bumps up Factor 2 to allegedly take any role into a 6 (even though Freedom to Act has not been scored any differently).
