Hi all,
Sorry if this offends anyone, but over the last few months, all I've seen in the UK forum is how people are wanting to go to the US! I understand why you might want to do it... but I personally want to hear from people in the UK about UK nursing. Is it so bad that every person from the UK on this forum wants to go to the US?
Come on, prove me wrong!

Uk nurses will not usually post on a US forum unless they want to go and live there...They post here to get info. So this forum will mainly attract the type of nurse that wants to work abroad. It's probably only a small percentage of UK nurses.
The only americans I ever see in the Uk forums are ones enquiring about work or training in the UK. That doesn't mean that 'all' Americans want to go and work there.
You probably won't hear from the majority of nurses that are happy in the UK as they probably post in UK forums. It will be more relevant to their life and work.
Some of the nurses I know of that are interested in working in the US, aren't doing so because they are unhappy with Uk nursing. They just fancy moving to another country and a registered nursing qualification allows you to work all over the world.
I read around here as I'm interested in learning about nursing worldwide but the majority of my classmates never come here because US nursing doesn't really apply to them and they would rather talk about matters specific to Uk nursing.
Just wanted to add that at first glance (although it says 'For Nursing issues that are unique to the Uk) , this Uk part of the board looks like it is designed for UK nurses that are already living in the US or are planning on moving there. Most of the thread titles suggest this anyway. So maybe some UK nurses come, look and then leave as they don't feel they fit into that criteria.

I loved nursing in the UK. Being a nurse allowed me to fullfill my dream to live in the US, so nursing was a tool that has brought me here.
I certainly wouldn't have left the UK just to be a nurse in the US. I found this forum after I had sat the NCLEX and at the start of my immigration process. I had already registered years before but at that time I must have decided it didnt answer the nursing needs I had for the UK.
I know lots of nurses who are happy staying in the Uk and the NHS.

ditto as to what kay has said, I only discovered this site just before leaving the uk, and yes we nurses who want to be in the usa use it as a tool for information, personally, when I was in the uk, no-one that I worked with ever looked on this site, even although I tried to encourage them to do so, and I would love more input from uk nurses just to keep up with whats going on back home. I think that ingeneral they are a bit reticent about being involved. you only have to look in the break room at the good morning thread and theres very few uk nurses who take part. I would love to see more of you all to use the site and take part and join us.
Ach well,
I guess I'm alone here. I personally came here to read about the US perspective on nursing and also to see how it compared to the UK. I've not come across any UK nursing forums as comprehensive as this one, hence why I asked.
But hey, I love this forum, so maybe I'll just ignore the UK part and not get annoyed that every UK nurse I see seems to be running off to the US
P.S. Not that I wouldn't contemplate it in different circumstances, just for experience!

I guess that I am unusual as I do not particularly want to work in the US and have never been there, but I joined allnurses when my regular nursing discussion board closed down and I wanted to continue to have the camerarderie and friendship that I had there - in fact, allnurses is actually better! Having said that, I am now planning my first holiday to the USA mainly because of the friendships I have found here!!
This site is gradually getting known in the uK so we should be seeing more people join.

you are not alone.. I love working in the UK and wouldnt want to go anywhere else!! ok maybe I'd like to work in Fort William as opposed to working here on the outskirts of London!! I would like to return to my roots and go home to scotland one day... but thats as much travel as I want to do!!!

I love it here but my only problem is that with my pay I cannot afford to buy a house once am qualified. My friends in USA seem to manage no bother and would not come back as the pay here is that bad. I need to work in a place where I can be independent. Enough of living with mom and dad.
