UIC nursing school

Published

Okay so i am applying to the BSN program at UIC 2015. I am so worried because i have no idea what to expect. It is one of the top nursing schools in the country. I am literally freaking out because i am competing for one of the 90 spots. My Cum GPA is 3.89 and science GPA is 4.0 and I graduated out of high school a year early (at the age 16). i am currently 18 years old. I finished most of my pre-reqs at a community college because its cheaper, I also finished my essay questions but i am worried that its not good enough. I volunteer at my local hospital for over a few months and i know that nursing is what I want to do.

Can someone please tell me if I have a good chance of getting in? Getting into UIC is my dream goal. Is my GPA good? Is there anything that i can do to improve my chances of getting in?

I am applying sometime next week.

I haven't heard anything either yet! Usually sometime after May 20th is where they usually call back.

Hi Angela!

I got admitted to Urbana campus, yet I did apply for Chicago too. Have you decided to accept the offer and move? Do you know what is the best way to look for a shared apartment / house over there?

Thank you:) I hope you could also hear good news!

I'm just little surprised that I applied to Chicago campus and also did interview in Chicago but got accepted at the Urbana campus..

Has anyone heard of this case?

I got admitted to the Urbana campus too. Is anyone moving to Urbana and is willing to share apartment?

Will they typically require transfer applicants for upper division to send act or sat scores?

Hey people,

How are you guys doing?

Well, I already started my nursing program, and it is not for make feel sad to anyone because I know you guys are so exited about the program at UIC. But, I found this website.

UIC has a very low NCLEX passing rate!....I am so thankfull I did not went there....I am guessing the lower passing rate is because they don't do any test and anything to accept the people. You may be good talking in an interview, but if you dont do in the test you are waisting your time and MONEY!....make sure to study! Compare to others shools UIC has the lowest rating pass (only 68% students from UIC passed the NCLEX on 2014, while others UNiversities like Loyola had more than 80%) that is why some people said UIC school of nursing in on probation!....

I am so happy with my program, and so glad I did not went to UIC! I told you things happen for a reason. I hope I don't see UIC college of nursing closing the program!.

I don't go to UIC. But it's crazy they have the lowest BSN NCLEX pass rate in the state!! University of Illinois is supposed to be prestigious 😳

Well I am one of the fortunate ones to have been accepted to the UIC CON 2015. You guys are looking at the numbers all wrong. U are comparing schools who admit virtually everyone as to uic only selects less then 100 students per year. If even one of those students does not pass the NCLEX it is reflected as a huge percent. That's just my opinion. And the link does not say UIC is on probation. It says "first year warning". Good luck with Nursing school.

Congrats on your acceptance! Realized my post was a bit negative, I was just a little shocked. Employers don't ask your school's NCLEX pass rates lol ;) So as long as you pass the NCLEX it doesn't matter where you went to school. I wish you an enjoyable nursing school journey :)

I just say to the people who are in that program "study" that is all. The lower passing rate from last year can affect the overall of the school if keep going like that. I know several nursing programs had clossed because of the lower passing rate. I know a friend of mine who is in my program, she said she was in a school that closed because people did not passed the NCLEX, and she said they did not refound the money!....Don't wanted to be negative, just to let you know (and advice to people who want to apply to this program in the future) what is going on with the nursing program at UIC. Of curse, they have to keep the reputation and many people do not know that they have a lower rating passing in the NCLEX, but YES they do. So, just be aware and study hard, so the school does not close, and you graduate. Employers don't ask your school's NCLEX pass rates? Yes, but they ask for YOU personal NCLEX passing rate, and GPA score! If you dont pass then you can not get a job as simple as that!. Besides that the school reputation come down and is in risk of clossing!...Just study, and pray the people who graduate from this year are able to increase the low rate! :nurse:

Thanks for participating in our discussion Arlene1. I have discussed with UIC the reason behind their low NCLEX pass rate: they prepare their students for the clinical environment more thoroughly than other schools. This is why UIC CON is regarded as the top nursing choice in the state and one of the top nationwide. If you are a good self-studier like myself, standardized tests are not a problem and that information can be obtained through other sources beside the school! I also was thinking about going to resurrection university but decided to go to UIC instead. Good luck with your schooling!

Hi there! I wanted to know if anyone knows how well UIC CON compares to Resurrection University? Would anyone be able to say how they compare in terms of how rigorous and good the programs are? As a side note too, for those already in or graduated from UIC CON, was it possible for someone to maintain a job as well while in school or was it probably too much to handle with the course load? Thanks for your input all!

I know this thread is a little old, but I was hoping I could get some insight into how the program has been going for everyone who made it in and if you have any input as to what made you stand out in your application? I will be applying this fall for the program starting in 2017 and honestly so stressed out about it. Just wondering if anyone had any advice :)

Thanks!
