Is anyone taking the BSN program at UIC? if so would you recommend it to a transfer student. Is it competitive to get in? what about the program itself? I am currently working on my pre-reqs in a community college and I would really appreciate your help:no:

Hi There Student-to-be!

Yes, I am in the UIC program. I started in Fall of 08, so I am finishing up my first year right now. It's a FANTASTIC program. I love it!!

thats great sallyinchicago....I really want to get into their program...do mind telling me what you GPA was and did you get in on the first try???

I accidentally found this site in an attempt to weigh out my chances for getting into UIC's nursing program. I, unfortunately, was denied for early admission. I do, however, have a 3.85 GPA and am still crossing my fingers for an acceptance letter in April. Do you happen to know anyone that was denied for early admission but was accepted for the final decision?

I haven't heard of that situation, but that does not mean that it has never existed. I just have never heard of that is all. I would also caution you to not just focus on your GPA. The decision is not based solely on GPA. My cum gpa was not a 3.85 last year, and I did gain entrance.

Another factor to consider is this economy. There are PLENTY of people competing for entrance this year, I would guess more than last year. Last year, 800-900 people applied for 90 spots. It's going to be a tough year in terms of competetion.

Hi There RN-to-Be!

I really do not like discussing my GPA, not even with classmates! I will tell you as I mentioned to cheeryo, and as I continue to mention. Entrance to nursing school, especially the best in Illinois (UIC) is not solely based on GPA. My GPA can't and shouldn't be a consolation for anyone to compare theirs with. It was competetive, but I stood out because of what I said in my essays, my recommendation letters, and my GPA.

My advice for anyone desiring to get into UIC is to make your application stand out as best you can with excellent essays, great recommendation letters, and great grades.

Well thank you Sally... I definitely gave it my all in my essay so I'll just have to hope for the best in April.

For those of you in the BSN program at the moment, were any of you waitlisted and then accepted? I just got an email last week letting me know that I am on the waiting list. UIC is my number one choice and I am crushed that I did not get in, but I am not holding my breath about coming off the wait list. Does anyone have any advice?

I am graduating in two weeks. Yes…I am almost there and I made it. I applied to UIC for the early admition, it was number one choice for me, but I thought I had no chances to get in, I also applied to another 16 nursing colleges in IL. Well… I didn’t get to UIC for the early admition or regular admition, but I received a call from the office for the LATE admition, a MONTH BEFORE classes were starting. Well… I dropped all the other offers I had from the other nursing prgrams, and without a doubt transferred to UIC.

Leave your application until the last minute, some people drop out before starting the rogram because don’t pass or finish their prerequisites, some can’t pay for school; some- break the leg (literally).

The program is great, professors are your friends and want you to do well, they are not pain in the behind like in community colleges or other nursing schools, they really help you to understand, learn, and love your future career… and please, once you are in… use their help.

My GPA was high, mostly A’s and a couple B’s, I heard it was more competitive this year, so study study study, you can’t slack around, you probably will start drinking coffee :smiletea2:(happened to me, but I am not addicted). Essay is extremely important, don’t say how you want to change the world, it has to be a very sincere story something that stuck from your childhood experience, something you’ve experienced in the hospital, other country or whatever, think about it for a couple months before writing, it has to be unique. THEY DO READ THEM!!!!

Oh… even though I got in for the late admition, I am ahead of some of those who were on the top of the list for the early admition.

I hope that helps.

Hey Icechick! I was waitlisted at UIC, and I am finishing my first year there, and I LOVE IT!!!! I was really really lucky because my application was on the top of the wait list. Good luck to you!

Thanks for giving me hope. I am looking into other options, but I really hope I can get into UIC. I'd rather know sooner than later, but if I get in at the last minute I will be happy. I saw on another post that they will let me know my ranking on the waitlist in the next month, is that a given or should I call them up?

I know the next application deadline is Jan 15...is that to start in spring2010 or Fall 2010?

It's for the fall. UIC only has one start date and that is in the fall (August)
