UI Chicago GEP Spring 2012

Published

Anyone planning to apply to UIC's GEP for winter/spring 2012? (http://www.uic.edu/nursing/prospectivestudents/gep-about.shtml) The application opened on January 15 and is due March 1.

I just finished the primary application and am waiting to receive the secondary application to send out recommendation requests. Their application cycle is a bit odd and inconvenient, since most other places that start in the fall require deposits by late March into early April, and UIC doesn't inform you of your status until late April. But in the end, it's still a great program and worth a shot.

one phoenix rising- thank you for the tranquility :D

ACNP I think takes around 7 students and does all of their interviews in one day.

I see that there are 6 guests reading this page right now-- You guys should join in on the conversation! I'd love to hear from you!

No problem! I remember reading on past cohort threads that some people got their notice of an interview after the end of business on the last possible day. So it's possible that some of the faculty for other specialties procrastinate or are super-swamped with other things at this time of year.

Be cool, phoenix, be cool. :coollook:

/I'm just going to keep telling myself this stuff over and over again. :jester:

I am currently avoiding a panic attack (j/k) by reminding myself that apparently so far only FNP specialist applicants have heard about interviews and I did only get that email about applications being reviewed on March 16-literally five and a half weekdays ago.

I know what you mean - every time I get an email from this site I think - Oh my gosh people are hearing back and I'm not! I'm totally getting the April 4th email!

You are definitely right about the admissions decisions being made by faculty for each specialty/concetration. And based on previous threads, it does seem that FNPs have been the first to hear back.

With the supposed shortage of nurses and physicians (especially the general practitioners) we're about to see in the next 15 years, you would think universities would be expanding programs to meet these demands rather than making them so small. I don't know if there is a benefit to keeping your program very small (i.e. you turn out better prepared NPs), or if universities can't expand programs due to a lack of funding. Whatever the reasoning, I wish UIC had at least a few more seats in each specialty!

P.S. SCNP, congrats on being accepted to a program already - you go!!

sympamista and miss priss, i will definitely keep you posted should i hear something and please do the same! otherwise i am just counting down the days until april 4th.ugh...but lets be positive and hopefully we will all see one another at the interviews!

Hi all. I just joined this site. And I am getting really nervous because I applied for the FNP specialty, and did not recieve an interview email yesterday. Is it safe to assume I did not get one? :(

Has anyone that applied for the Peds track heard anything back yet?

Good Luck to everyone!!

I don't think so!!! :redpinkhe It is a really, really popular track-I think Julie said during the info session that is the most popular-so they probably have a ton of applications to go through. I just think for the other specialties that they may not have even gotten to the point of sending out interview invites yet.

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I really appreciate it! I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that you are right :)

I GOT AN INTERVIEW FOR ACNP!!!!!!!!!!!

It says they will be interviewing individually by one faculty member on April 4th with three different time selections.

Miss priss glad to see you got an interview. I did as well! now I am really nervous...did you however see a way to select a time, my email was blank.
