UI Chicago GEP Spring 2012

Published

Anyone planning to apply to UIC's GEP for winter/spring 2012? (http://www.uic.edu/nursing/prospectivestudents/gep-about.shtml) The application opened on January 15 and is due March 1.

I just finished the primary application and am waiting to receive the secondary application to send out recommendation requests. Their application cycle is a bit odd and inconvenient, since most other places that start in the fall require deposits by late March into early April, and UIC doesn't inform you of your status until late April. But in the end, it's still a great program and worth a shot.

No additonal info here. My status on the application review still says pending. No confirmation of my deposit either. Still no response from Julie either on if my classes will be accepted or not...

Arguh. This is incredibly frustrating. I'm tempted to stop by the office in person (which I realize probably isn't an option for most of you) just to make sure my spot is secure and find out which pre-reqs I'm still going to be required to complete. I can understand the office being overwhelmed during the late application season, but I'd think they'd be more responsive to at least the accepted applicants at this point in the game. :-/

I also sent an email to Julie on Monday, just asking if our transcripts will be reviewed so we can get a definite answer as to whether our prereqs will be accepted. Haven't heard a thing.

by the way, anyone who read my previous post about COD offering the methods class online.... I was wrong. It's general psych offered online. the methods class is offered in the classroom only. Looks like I'll probably be taking the U of Washington online class.

Hope all of you Chicagoans are enjoying the warm weather! Gosh is it humid!!!!

Oh no!! I was planning on taking that option if I needed to take that pre-req.

For the record, I sent an email to Julie on April 28th asking about my transcript review as well as what course(s) at CCC now meet the Research Methods pre-req requirements, (if I need that pre-req). I followed up with a phone call (and left a voicemail) on May 3rd. It's now May 11th and I haven't heard a thing.

I'm really tempted to try the squeaky wheel method, but I don't want to annoy her. Hence the plan to stop by in person. :-/

I found an online research methods course (Psych 303) offered by University of North Dakota. It starts May 16 and ends (I think) June 24th. It's about $330/credit hour and is a four-hour course (in-state and out-of-state pay the same price). I'm trying to find out more about it and just emailed Julie Kim with the course info to see if it would satisfy the research methods prereq. If I could finish this course by the end of June, that frees up a lot of time for the various commitments I have this summer. I would hate to have to miss some of them because I have to take an exam.

I suppose I could always wait until fall to take the research methods course, but I really just want to get it out of the way!

By the way, I'm looking forward to our orientation and can't wait to meet everyone!! :)

Hi guys! I emailed Julie on the 4th asking her when we would get any info regarding the prereqs that we still need to take so we can plan our summer and fall schedules, and she emailed me back saying they would be mailed out by the end of this week. Hopefully we get them soon :)

I actually just got an email back from Julie and the research methods course offered by the University of North Dakota will be accepted. So, if any of you are interested, I'm going to see if you can still register. If not, it might be a good option for fall too! I also think the UND course may come out to be slightly cheaper than the University of Washington option. Something to consider!

thanks Rachel! I am going to check out that course! Sorry about the COD blunder Phoenix. I thought I had it right, but when I went back to try to register, it was 1100, not 1180. Oh well.

No apologies needed!! :) I'm just glad you updated us before I started the whole app process for their school.

BTW- sjj & rachel - Do you guys know of a secret password or something that makes sure you actually get a reply from CON?

There must be a secret password- nothing back from JK to me yet...

Does anyone know how the facebook group was started last year? I didn't see one yet for our cohort?

Good Morning,

Rachel - did you get into the UND class? I looked at the site and it looked like only fall was available there, maybe I need to call them.

Miss Priss - we totally need a facebook group!!!! I assume someone just sets it up. Are you willing to be administrator and set it up? That would be awesome! I'm not sure what it entails. I think just inviting members right?

I'm still worried Spanish won't be accepted as humanities, but I haven't heard anything from CON yet.

Have a great day everyone!

Ooh! Just got an email confirmation that my deposit was received. It looks like we should expect to receive course evaluations next week.
