Anyone planning to apply to UIC's GEP for winter/spring 2012? (http://www.uic.edu/nursing/prospectivestudents/gep-about.shtml) The application opened on January 15 and is due March 1.
I just finished the primary application and am waiting to receive the secondary application to send out recommendation requests. Their application cycle is a bit odd and inconvenient, since most other places that start in the fall require deposits by late March into early April, and UIC doesn't inform you of your status until late April. But in the end, it's still a great program and worth a shot.
Hi Everyone,
I just found this thread. I am currently on the wait list for Peds NP and was wondering if anyone had any information on how the wait list works. On older threads some people said they knew their spot but I also read other places that they don't give that information out. UIC is my top choice although I have also applied to Case Western's GEP, Loyola University's ABSN and the University of Rochester's ABSN. I currently live in Rochester, NY but am really interested in moving to Chicago. Congrats to those who have been accepted!
Hello,
Sorry URXC10, I don't know the wait list works at UIC. Good luck to you!!
Miss Priss and Phoenix, please keep me posted on what you hear about prereqs. I am in the same situation. I do need to take the research methods class, but I'm not sure if what I suggested as humanities (Spanish) will actually be accepted. Foreign language did qualify for humanities when I went to school the first time around! Also, we can take the class(es) in the fall as well, right? As long as we are done before the January start date??? I guess I will email Julie too. I sent in my deposit yesterday!!!! It's official!
CPA,
I'm pretty sure we can take classes in the fall. I'm in the boat as you. Spanish is my humanities too and counted for my b.a. but I don't know if they will accept here. I'm taking HUM101 right now and hate it!!! (just in case I needed another class). But I'm still antsy to see if there isn't something accepted so I can register already.
I sent in my deposit last Thursday- I was just a little excited to say the least and wanted to secure my place before UIC changed their mind! :)
URX: I'm sorry but I don't know any further info on the waiting list. It looks like Julie does not tell you where you are on the list but they gave a deposit deadline of May 15th to hold places- I would keep an eye out on your email in case someone doesn't pay the deposit or decides to go somewhere else. Good Luck!!!
The only class I'm eager to know about is Research Methods. I should be okay with a masters and research experience, but a confirmation would be nice. I think that humanities, social sciences and English comp would all have been completed as gen eds during undergraduate studies. I'm sure they will find something in your transcript that fits the requirements of those prerequisites.
I see a lot of the acceptances went to Chicago people. The in state tuition will be nice when compared to what some of the private schools are charging. I estimated the cost of attendance difference for the first phase between UIC and those private schools and it works out to between $30-50k. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see a big tuition hike in the future with all of Illinois' financial problems. I've been living in the Little Italy area since the beginning of the "revitalization". The rent is a little cheaper than the south and west loop, and a lot of new restaurants and bars have begun to sprout up in the area. It also happens to be right in the middle of UIC's east and west campuses, so walking to class will be easy. I would recommend it for anyone moving to town.
I'll be commuting an hour each way too Miss Priss! Maybe we can help someone out with rent and crash one or two nights a week at someone's place. It might help with those early classes! At least when we are in clinicals we'll be traveling all over and then maybe something will be close to home!!
CPA I like the way you think!!
Anyone who attending the info sessions- do you guys remember the current students answering questions saying anything about after 8 weeks getting a day off a week and then after another 8 weeks getting another day off a week? Maybe I just heard wrong or something but I thought I remember them saying something to that effect.
I am not swimmer. I took A&P through U of Phoenix and it wasn't very good. I should probably take it again! lol.
I just looked up COD for the Research Methods class. They have an online version and their out of district tuition is $316 per hour, so it should come out a little under $1,000. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if I can get into the class that starts May 23rd and ends July 18th. What is everyone else planning to do for the methods class.

Thanks Phoenix for getting back to me. I'll let you know if I hear anything from her either.
