Anyone planning to apply to UIC's GEP for winter/spring 2012? (http://www.uic.edu/nursing/prospectivestudents/gep-about.shtml) The application opened on January 15 and is due March 1.
I just finished the primary application and am waiting to receive the secondary application to send out recommendation requests. Their application cycle is a bit odd and inconvenient, since most other places that start in the fall require deposits by late March into early April, and UIC doesn't inform you of your status until late April. But in the end, it's still a great program and worth a shot.
Anyone who attending the info sessions- do you guys remember the current students answering questions saying anything about after 8 weeks getting a day off a week and then after another 8 weeks getting another day off a week? Maybe I just heard wrong or something but I thought I remember them saying something to that effect.
I didn't hear anything like that at the session I attended. The way you phrased that question makes it sound like the program is 7 days a week, but I remember the current students (in response to questions about working while attending) saying it was like a 9-5, weekday program, but that they didn't recommend working even on the weekends at the beginning.
Thanks Phoenix. I thought I remember the students saying something about being in class 8-4 mon-friday and then after 8 weeks they had a day off and they were so happy but maybe they went to clinicals instead?
Swimmer- I am going to go to the seminar. I was going to use those 8 classes as an opportunity to learn the area, parking spots and meet some future students. Are you going?
Hello,
I didn't get a call about the physiology seminar, but I think I would like to take it. Does anyone have any contact info about it? I thought we were just talking about A&P prereqs!
I haven't gotten any info after the acceptance letter and I have no idea what the actual start date in January would be.
Still have to figure out research methods class. ugh.
Phoenix,I just re-read your response. The way I thought they were explaning it was that you were in class 5 days a week for 8 weeks and then 4 days a week after 16 weeks. Does that make more sense? But I am starting to think that the other days not in class were in clinical.
Ohhh... Now I see what you mean. Yeah, I'm almost certain what you're remembering them talking about is the transition from classroom hours to clinical hours. Maybe my mind is fooling me and creating a fake memory, but now that you phrased it that way, I think I remember something about that. What I do know for sure, is that on the class syllabus for the first 15 months, there are more and more clinical-based credit hours as the program progresses.
Has anyone received official word from the graduate school beyond the CON acceptance letter? Just curious.
No, I haven't. Has anyone else? Did anyone receive confirmation that your deposit was received?
Misspriss - Thanks for explaining about the physiology seminar. Since I work during office hours, I wouldn't be able to attend anyways, so I guess it'll be a good thing that I'll be fresh out of A&P when we start in January.
