UHV Second Degree BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

Published

Hi all, anybody out there applying for this program? I haven't seen an updated thread on it yet. I just finished applying to UHV- just waiting on NursingCAS to receive my final transcript for my application to be considered "complete" I'm also applying to UTHSCH UTHSCSA accelerated programs, and TWU-Houston traditional BSN program. I have my B.S. in Human Biology from UT Austin in Spring 2010. My undergrad GPA was definitely less than stellar, but all my pre-req coursework is not too bad. What is y'alls impression of this program?

Hi Adryanne! Good luck and God bless to you too! See you in a couple of weeks :)

We will all have to find some way to introduce ourselves on interview day!

Yes, looking forward to meeting you all! I wasn't nervous at all until I realized there's pretty much just 2 full weeks until the interview! So much to get done between now and then as far as fulfilling requirements for TWU. o.O I emailed the person who we sent our confirmation to, and she said we should get notification of admission by that week! Exciting!

Anybody have any feedback on my pale pink skirt/black button up idea for the interview?? LOL

I would think it would be fine, as long as it's professional! :)

I guess I need to go buy a suit...I just finished all of my immunization stuff, and got my CPR certification and sent that in, so that's really all I have left to do! I'm getting nervous!

Welcome Adryanne! Yes I'd like to meet ya'll on Interview day, any ideas how :) If we wear nametags we can write our screenname on there as well, perhaps? It's an idea!

Your outfit sounds cute apriljacklynn! Like lbaum said, as long as it's professional looking-not tight on you that it looks painted on or something.

That's a good idea, jennytmuw!

Or maybe we could also meet in the building before the interview, since we will have to be with our groups during the interview? That would be neat if we were all in the same group!

Gosh, I really hope we all get in!

I like the screen names on the name tag idea. Or just asking in our small groups if anyone is on here. Out of curiosity, or if there are any current students floating around here, does anyone know what the clinical schedule looks like beyond Spring? I think for Spring it is on Mondays, with virtual clinicals Wed and Friday. But does it stay on Mondays all year? When does it go to 12 hours? I am just trying to get an obligation taken care of, and it needs to be able to be on 1 night all year long, preferably Mondays. So I dont know if its possible to do clinicals on Wed or Friday after the Spring, or whenever it goes to 12 hours. And has anyone looked at the course schedule for this Spring 2014? I looked it up today and there were some weird things happening...some classes not listed on the degree plan outline online, and classes on the same days at the same times. It was weird. I guess maybe things are changing this upcoming year! Sorry for the rambling questions - I am someone who likes to know Exactly whats going on...I just wish there was more information!

Sigh...I am not so good at waiting :-/

I'm nervous too. Contemplating getting a suit or not. My outfit idea is definitely not tight or anything, just more fashion professional. O.o debating the classic professional in my head! Lol

I just finished my CPR cert yesterday but have yet to do all the titers. I have no insurance yet so it's all out of pocket. O;(

Mondays is simulation day where you go to school from 8-3 if i remember correctly. You will have classes on tuesdays and thurdays. tuesday classes end at around 11-3 or 8-3 depending if you have a test that day. Thursdays you are there until about 6:30 or 7. You will have clinicals on either wednesday or friday. If you have it on one day then you are off the other day to study, do paperwork, etc. You will have some clinicals at Harris County Psychiatric Center and its different for everyone. HCPC has morning shift from 7am-3pm or night shift from 3pm-11pm. You basically have 3 different clinical sites: the hosptial (Med surg), pediatrics, and HCPC. There will be groups with a different mix of these three sites. Hope that helps. Im pretty sure on the times but I might be a bit off.

Yikes! I bet that is expensive :bluecry1:

tlc0584, thanks for the schedule information! Can you shed any light on how we can make ourselves stand out (in a good way) during the interview? I'm assuming some of the current students will be there to help us out/evaluate us on interview day?

Well, from my experience from interview day, just make sure you can talk to the people in your group. Once they split you up into groups, they will be walking around looking over your shoulders and listening to your conversations. There were like 2-3 professors walking around the whole time. I don't think the former students did any of the evaluation. Just sound confident and make yourself sound like you are participating without being bossy, and know the subject so that when you stand in front of the class and present you sound like you know what you are talking about. As for the essay part, just make sure you can log on to the system before the interview day. We had a student who couldn't log on that day and he ended up not being a part of the program, not sure if this was the reason but just a warning.

Thank you very much!!

Thank you tlc0584 !

Yes it would be awesome if we all got accepted !! :woot:

Gosh, I hope we do.

Oh I was also wondering the "titers" ya'll have mentioned. What is that? Did you all get an email about immunizations? I haven't received any information on that...:cyclops:
