UFV Jan 2021 BSN

Published

Hello readers. Just curious if there is anyone out there whom is or has officially applied for the 2021 January intake for the BSN program @ UFV and what your experience has been thus far?

Me, I am working hard at my upgrades. I never thought I would be in my mid 30s and going back to Bio 12 and Chem 11 but here I am. I am working feverishly to get my classes done before Aug 15 as that is the last day your transcript has to be updated to meet the prerequisite requirements. I did and still do find this whole process overwhelming. When I met with the advisor at UFV she told me: English 12, Bio 12, Chem 11, and Math 11, come in with straight A's. I initially kind of thought, really??? Maybe I still do. I had a B+ in English 12. She recommended to pull that up to an A. So I am doing Chem 083 through UFV and Bio(now called Anatomy and Physiology) through online school district. I would be curious to hear if anyone else out there is considering or has applied and how your venture has been so far.

Take care!

Thanks Katie. It is certainly a nerve racking process. And this is only part 1. Wait until the next step! LOL

Definitely will get more interesting, but we all got this??

@amb0331 yes I am in the same situation. However, my application status says ready to review by program. But still my volunteer hours says pending approval and my apppication status shows outstanding.

I tried to reach admissions so many times but they do not respond. They must be very busy. But I am just hoping that everything will be fine.

good luck everyone.

I spoke to Admissions yesterday, I was told that if the required documents have been submitted it will take a few weeks to update in the portal. But as long as they are submitted prior to the deadline you’re okay ☺️ Hope this helps

Hi everyone!

I have been reading through some of the earlier posts on the page (just found this site) and I was wondering if my grades, volunteer experience and references would be good enough to take me to the interview and essay stage of this program. In high school I got an A with 95% in AP English 12 and a score of 5 on the Advanced Placement Collage Board exam (Regular English 12 I also got an A with a 96%), 99% in Biology 12, 99% in AP Calculus (99% in Regular Calculus), 99% in AP Chemistry 12 (99% in Regular Chemistry 12), 100% in Pre-Calculus 12 Pre-AP, and 99% in Physics 12 and 11. For my references I submitted 5 I believe and I have 400 hours of volunteer experience in the community as a whole. I know I have less volunteer experience in a health care setting than I would have liked, but does anyone who has been through this application process think my application is good enough to pass the initial stage? I also applied late (beginning of July) which worries me more!! Also, could anyone give me some tips as to how to prepare for the essay and interview stages of this application. I’m very nervous about how this is going to look due to COVID-19. Like how is the essay and interview’s going to happen due to COVID? Also, does the essay question usually relate to your passion for nursing or something personal / broad, opinion based question? Or is it more about something related to the role of a nurse / what you think the best impact a nurse has made is type question. When typically does the essay or interview letters go out to those who made it to the second stage as well? I know I have so many questions, but any information and help would be much appreciated and would really calm my nerves. If anyone has any advice at all or information please reply back as it would help me a TON! Thank you.

As far as the date you processed your application, I don't think that has anything to do with if you get selected or not. My impression would be as long as it was in by Aug 15 you should be OK. As far as your grades being good enough? I think you can figure that out yourself.....you are saying you basically have perfect grades......so in my mind that is pretty good.

As far as questions about essays and that, I have no clue. That is likely discussed when the appropriate time comes and it is likely confidential.

Good luck!

Has anyone done, or is considering doing Anatomy & Physiology I/II prior to being accepted into the program?

I have verfied UFV does accept this as a credit from other insitutions, but they must be taken at the same school. I am considering this prior to being accepted into a program, as it may assist making the first couple of semesters a bit lighter. Would love to hear more information from others who may be in the same boat.

Yes, I think you should defiantly take Anatomy and Physiology I/II beforehand as pre-nursing classes. Also, I recommend taking an English class as well and maybe a phycology class depending on UFV’s nursing checklist. Just check what nursing classes that are in the program are taking and try to take as many of the non-nursing specific classes like English and biology beforehand. That way when you do get into the program you don’t have to waste time doing those! It makes things so much easier! I hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. I am registered for English in September. I am also on waitlist for Stats. My backup plan to that was waitlist for Psych.

But now that I know that you can transfer the other courses I am wondering if I should put them first. I have only applied for BSN in Jan....not accepted yet so who knows if I will even get in. Just trying to make things simpler if possible.

Can you take both A&P at same time? How did you find the courses? Overwhelming?

BCIT does a condensed 6 credit A+P course, it’s BHSC1200. When I did it last September, it was two 3 hour lectures, and a 3 hour lab each week. It was totally manageable - I did it while working full time and volunteering. Im not sure if other schools allow you to do them concurrently.

I would recommend taking A&P I and II separately as they do require a lot of work and effort each. Also, these are pivotal classes as well in which you should aim to get the highest mark you can. Instead maybe take other lightweight courses like English, Stats, etc, but make sure to look into what classes different nursing schools want because the classes sometimes differ slightly.

WOW!. $2000 for that course alone. And it's all full!

So you suggest I go forward with doing the English and Stats first?

I thought even if I did the first A&P in the fall and the 2nd one next year?

Are these courses similar to the A&P in Grade 12?

I was reading all the earlier posts and want to share my experience. So I have applied for January intake 2021. But I am also taking stats, english and A&P 1 in Spring semester. I am taking these courses thinking that it will help me later if I get admit into nursing program.

And I confirmed with health studies department, every session about 150-200 applicants apply on average. I am just mentioning this here, because someone on this page said this number is around 700.

Good luck everyone, we are almost there.

Hi! Anyone heard about an info session yet? Any ideas about the essay prompt?

also, I spoke to an advisor and he informed me that my pre-calc 12 mark was being used instead of 11. Does that sound right? Wasn’t sure if pre-calc 12 could be substituted.

Hey Leah!

I don’t know for sure, but I’ve heard typically people are notified in October about the information session. In regards to the essay prompt, we aren’t told and people who write it are told to keep it confidential. It's typically changed every intake, so even if someone does tell you it’s incredibly unlikely that it’ll be the same!

As for the pre-calc mark, typically they will take whatever the higher grade is. For example, my English 12 grade was a B and my English 105 grade was an A. They ended up taking my English 105 grade because it was my higher grade and it made my GPA higher.  It’s okay if they substitute it, in a way they’re helping you out because it makes your GPA a bit better!

Hope this helps!!

Katie
