Hey everyone,
This is a thread for everybody applying for the UFV Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program for the Fall (September) 2021 intake.
We can talk about our grades and GPA's, volunteer or work experience's, other schools we're applying to and so forth.
I submitted my application beginning of October when the applications opened up and applied with 3 A’s and 1 B in Pre calc 11. I also have about 800 hours at a hospital and 80 hours at a care home.
Good Luck everybody!
Hey everyone!
I am currently in the Nursing program going into my second semester of first year this September 2021. I’m not sure if anyone need or wants my advice and experience getting into UFV, but I know a lot of people from my school wanted some advice so I thought I may as well post something and maybe it might help another person. So here it goes...
I got into UFV nursing my first year out of high school. I honestly thought it wasn’t too hard to get in since I didn’t really try very hard to get into the program. My biggest advice is to keep your grades high and to get very strong references. Below I have listed my grades going into the program alongside my volunteering hours. Your grades are worth 16 points for your application so aim for the best possible marks. Also, my high school offered Advanced Placement classes of which I passed the English AP exam with a 5 which also helped me boost my portfolio regarding my marks. I also had 500 hours of volunteering by the end of my four years and I had started a few clubs as well in my community. Alongside this, I submitted 5 references for the program since your references are worth another 6 points. I knew I wasn’t going to do as well on the interview so tried to keep my points up where I could since it is your points that get you into this program at the end. Each of my references were from a different volunteering experience and all my references were VERY personalized, containing examples and personal experiences I had with my referee which related to nursing. I made sure to inform my referees to personalize my references to the field of nursing and discuss experiences that relate to my ability to be a nurse in the future. Also, only get references from referees you have a close relationship with so your reference stands out and is personalized from every other persons! The essay question given will be related to nursing. It will be an opinion question that WILL require you to have some knowledge of what nursing is and what it means to you. To prepare for this essay I researched important nursing values and ethics in the profession that I made sure to address in my essay to support the opinions and experiences I shared regarding the prompt (I can’t be too specific without giving away the prompt but I hope that helps). For the essay make sure you don’t just state your opinion but ALWAYS relate it back to a nursing core value, event, etc to support your opinions and showcase how they align to the values of the profession. Same for the interview. When being asked a question always relate what you say to nursing and mentally ask yourself why the interviewer is asking the question they are and how it might possible help you put yourself forward as a potential future nurse. For example, if asked about challenges faced during Covid, answer with how your challenges have helped you become a better nurse, what they taught you about your capability of being a nurse, what they taught you about the value of nursing or what skills you gain to be a better nurse, etc. Don’t just answer the question, but ALWAYS relate it to nursing.
High School Grades:

Calculus 12: 98% Calculus AP: 97%

I’m best advice is to keep your points high in areas you can especially in areas you are stronger in. If anyone needs advice or someone to reach out to when in the nursing program at UFV you can reach out to me at [email protected] and I would love to answer your questions more personally. I know how terrifying it is to not know what to expect regarding the difficulty of the program, etc so don’t be afraid to reach out.
Best luck to the future nurses of UFV and I hope you all get into the program!! (Sorry for any spelling and grammar mistakes tooo!!)

Thank you so much, all of this helps so much! I didn't know we could give more than one reference letter ??. I'm hoping the other experience I have that I have stated in the additional application will help.

I wouldn't stress too much, the essay is only worth 10% of your application. You academic history is the biggest with 41%, then it's followed by the interview at 33%

I was in the last information session, there's a confidentiality form you have to fill out, so unfortunately I don't think I can really say anything about it
