UF's Generic BSN Program Fall 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi Guys! I haven't seen any threads for this coming fall semester for UF, so i decided to start one.

I'll start by saying my name is Naomi & I have applied for entry into the GENERIC Fall 2012 BSN program. I'm a Jacksonville, FL native and I am praying for this acceptance so I can get started with nursing school, finish, and start my career. I am super excited because I love Gainesville and UF. I think it is a terrific school, as I have a few friends who attend there. When I applied I had a 3.31 overall GPA, and I'm not quite sure how to calculate my science GPA, (if anyone can help me with that, I'll definitely appreciate it!) but I feel I wrote a great essay, so hopefully along with that and my prayers, I will get accepted. I am already claiming it!

Well, I wish you guys who applied the best of luck and I hope to see you all this coming fall semester. =)

I guess this can be a means of communication for those out there with any questions or comments regarding the application/review process, or anything else you're curious to know.

Good luck!

- Naomi

Hey guys!

I am very anxious about the admission decision and can't wait to hear back. I love UF and am also praying that I get in =)

I have a 3.8 overall GPA and a 3.6 pre-req. I also worked as a CNA for a bit and volunteer so hopefully I get in.

Goodluck everyone!

Naomi,

That's interesting! I plan on living on my own which may make it easier to find a place. Apartments to share may be harder to come by but I heard from a UF friend that single apartments and houses are plentiful (at least, I hope so haha). I can only imagine what it might be like for those accepted for Fall '12. That time frame is short and is probably stressful for transfers like us. Good luck with UCF! You're welcome for the tip! It can be a bit confusing. Both my regular GPA and science prereq GPA are the same so it's easy for me! :) I applied to USF, too.

Hi everyone,

I have also applied for the Nursing Program for 2012. I starting to get extremely anxious! This wait is horrible.. but I guess it will be all worth it, as long as I get in. :)

Housing is another issue. I have already started looking and like Naomi said, most of the places are full. :/

Gods willing that I can find a place and put a deposit down too. Although, if I am not admitted into the school I hope that I will be able to get my money back to put down for another apartment.

Good Luck to everyone!!!

Hey Rachael!

It will be worth it when we receive those acceptance letters! lol Hows your apartment search going? One thing I was also worried about was being able to get my money back should something (God forbid) go wrong and I'm not accepted.. I would get all but $565 back i believe from my place but the issue im having now is having to put down 1/2 the money up front because of credit issues. :( sucks but i really have no other choice. Have you applied to any other schools?

Hi Kayteamarie!

I also love UF and I am praying that I get in as well.. even though my stats aren't as good as yours.. thats an awesome GPA! The CNA experience and the volunteering should help you out quite a bit.. how was your essay? Have you applied to any other schools? Nice meeting you & good luck to you as well!

Oh yea, it should be a piece of cake to find a place to live alone.. I wanted at least one roommate.. you know, just to make a new friend or whatever. Shared apartments are DEFINITELY hard to come by.. Well, I didn't get accepted into UCF which is why I'm a bit worried about UF, but I am trying to stay optimistic. The wait and anticipation, as well as the struggle of trying to find a decent, safe, and affordable place is definitely stressful. When will you hear back from USF?

Naomi,

I read you didn't get into UCF, and I didn't get in either. I also applied to UNF and USF. (Well going to apply to USF- the application isn't open yet). I feel like UCF doesn't have as much room as UF does, even though they are both competitive so definitely stay optimistic! I've heard of people who got accepted at UF and denied at UCF last admission period =) I worked on my essay with my boyfriend's aunt who is an English professor so I think I did okay! I believe mid-july is when everyone hears back from USF, which will be my back-up school! Nice meeting you too!

Oh and to everyone, if you need help finding a place in Gainesville once you get accepted, I know a few good places near campus =) I live in Gainesville right now LOVE it!

Kaytea,

Yea.. Its seems as if UCF is just known for giving people a hard time.. They are really particular.. you would think they were an ivy league school or something. lol Its great that you had someone to look over your essay.. I had my English professor look over mine as well. Maybe I should apply to USF too, even though they already told me that you have to have a pretty HIGH GPA to get into their program.. Its odd that their application isn't open yet.. July is kind of late to be hearing back when you start school in August.

About the places near campus.. where would you recommend we look? I came down to take a look but I'm not really that familiar with the area so I only went to certain places.

Hi everyone!I currently go to UF and applied for the nursing school! So nervous and anxious waiting for the letters. I currently live in Gainesville Place, around a 10 minute drive from campus and there is a Bus route #38 that picks you up in the appt complex and takes you right by shands and hpnp which is the nursing building. I definitely like it here, and there are a ton of current nursing students that live here. They offer 2/2 and 4/4 with room ate matching if you don't have anyone you know to live with!I am also applying to USF and FGCU (for spring 2013 because I missed the fall deadline for FGCU) but I definitely want to stay here at UF.If I don't get in I am going to be subleasing my apartment to whoever so I won't have to pay to break my lease. I currently pay 439 a month and have two roommates and one empty bedroom

Hey there jmnapoli! If you don't mind me asking, what is your GPA & do you have any medical experience ?

Hi NaomiD!

My overall GPA right now is a 3.87 - but im in the process of taking micro, physio, and nutrition because I changed my major to nursing the beginning of my sophmore year so that GPA will probably go down a little bit. I don't have any medical experience, but I have done some volunteering through the college of nursing and at a day care on campus becaus I'm interested in pediatric nursing!

I heard that you don't need to have any direct medical experience, but I believe it would definately help boost your application!

Hey Naomi,

Like Kayteamarie said, I believe somewhere around mid-July (which is incredibly late but the application ends june 15th for Fall '12). I am glad to hear that a single apartment is easier! I haven't decided whether I will be sharing one or not but it seems to me that a single apartment would be easier last-minute. I'm sorry you didn't get accepted! Always stay optimistic! Those who truly want to be a nurse will end up being one. If it's not UCF, it will be another school. The end definitely justifies the means :).
