UF Accelerated BSN, Summer 2018

U.S.A. Florida

Hi all!

It's pretty early on but I'd love to meet and chat with the potential applicants for this program. I also think it'd be great to have this forum in case we stumble upon application questions and such. Maybe some successful applicants in the past may pop in to say hello as well!

What are your feelings about this program or even UF in general? Are you applying to other programs? Where are you from?

Hi everyone! I am applying to the program as well and am a nervous wreck. I graduated from Georgia College & State University back in May with my degree in Public Health and have moved back home to pursue nursing. So glad that there is a thread going for this :) I am applying to USF as well. Does anyone know how competitive both UF and USF are? I have a 3.8 gpa on my last 60 credit hours and was an intern at a hospital back in GA but my pre-req gpa is somewhat low (A&P kicked my butt). Do you think I have a good chance of getting in?

Welcome!!! I'm so happy that there is another USF/UF applicant here! (I am a graduate student at USF currently, so if you have any questions about it, let me know!) I think your GPA is stellar and depending on your pre req. GPA you have a good shot at both schools. I know the USF app. gives you a certain number of points for overall GPA (not last 60) and the pre-req GPA only (no letters or essay) and based on that you can be offered an interview. I personally like the process for UF better because they look at last 60 credit hours (For me this is nice because they will actually look at my graduate school grades unlike USF), pre reqs, letters of recommendation and your essay. I feel there is more to an applicant than grades, and UF seems to understand this. Both programs are very competitive though, but I think your grades sound pretty good. :)

Hi everyone, long time lurker here! I figured it was time to post since applications are starting to open. :)

I will be applying also, along with a few accelerated MSN programs for non-nursing students, but UF is definitely top two for me. I graduated in 2013 with my BA from Texas Tech. I just wanted to say thank you for this thread!

Guys.. I just checked Nursing Cas and it doesn't have Accerletated nursing on there but there's one called "certificate program" is that it or do they still have to post it?

I just received an email from Kenneth about a previous question I had. I responded and asked if he knows about a certain time that it is to open on NusringCAS. I'll update you if/when I hear something back !

Update from Kenneth on when the application is to open:

"No, I would recommend checking in next week as NursingCAS has to approve all the changes from last year's application cycle which takes a few days after our target open date which is of course today September 1st. Thanks for your patience and cooperation!"

Indeed, it seems the portal for UF is lagging. :0

Oh well, we just need to be patient and keep an eye out for it :-)

Does anyone know for sure how the letter of recommendation process will be? I figured it would be uploading the document into the system if you had it, but looking at the Certificate program application, it uses a system where the website emails your reference and the person presumably replies with the letter.

The issue for me is that the person who did my professional recommendation doesn't use email and gave me a physical copy. I'm not sure he will have to time to try to figure out anything electronic.

Hey! Unfortunately this is how it is with NursingCas (a request is emailed to your recommender who then uploads the document to the system as well as fills out a quick survey of your performance/strengths). I had the same issue when I applied to Miami a few months ago and could not figure out if there was a way to get the physical copy to them. At the end of the day, I contacted my professor who was able to upload it for me, thankfully (He said it was really easy to do). I would either email Kenneth (as he may know of a way to let you send the physical version) or email your professor to let them know that it will likely have to be done in this manner.

Hope this helps!

Yeah. I sent an email to Kenneth and he said, "It has to be uploaded through your NursingCAS profile." which doesn't really clarify it for me unfortunately. And I'll just have to hope the doctor's office manager will help me out with uploading the letter if we do have to use the email system. Otherwise I'll have to find someone else I guess.

It sounds to me like uploading through the request is the only way though. :-( I'm in a bit of a pickle with one of my letters of recc. too (The NP I worked with moved away and I sadly do not have her number). So I may have to get another as well. :(

I feel the pain for both of you! I know its commonplace, but I just feel so awkward about asking for references. Even though I've asked people who know me well and sincerely don't mind I just feel.. strange? Like it's an imposition maybe? I don't know how to explain it! It's almost more stressful for me than getting ready to take the GRE for another school.

I'm with you! I always felt comfortable about who was writing my letters but asking makes me feel like i'm taking up their time. I always get them a gift/ thank you card though (LOL).

The GRE isn't bad though, so I'm glad you're not as stressed about it, haha! Good luck!!! :-)
