Hey all!
I wanted to start an offical thread for those applying to UF's accelerated BSN for the Summer of 2021! I know its still pretty early but I thought we could use this platform to support one another and share our own journeys through this process.
I am pretty nervous for this process. However, UF's hollistic approach toward each of its applicants gives me hope and reassurance.
Just a little about myself
I am currently finishing my last semester at USF. My last 60 hr credit GPA is pretty average as per UF's usual standards standing at about a 3.4. My cumulative is not too great so hopefully I am not penalized for having a low overall GPA. I have research experience and a publication to my name so hopefully that may hold some weight. Besides that, I have a lot of various volunteer experiences that are non-health care related.
I was specifically curious to know how much weight health care experience holds for admissions. I worked as a scribe for about one year where I was able to gain perspective into the nursing field eventually influencing my decision to pursue nursing. Besides that, I don't really have very much experience working directly with nurses or CNA's for that matter.
I was also curious to know more about the HESI A2 test if anyone knows more about that.
I would love to hear about everyone elses stats and experiences, how you are going about the admissions process in general.
Good luck to everyone applying this cycle!

After today, we only have 3 more days to wait until we know our fate LOL. Also, I was looking into University of South Alabama and they also offer an accelerated nursing program, plus we can get in-state tuition because they’re literally located at the border line between AL and FL. On their website, they’re saying that FL and I think GA are the exceptions to receiving in-state tuition. Just something to think about. ?
Thank you for this information! Counting down the days ?

Thank you for sharing that! I'm thinking about other places I can apply to, it was pretty last minute for me. I didn't apply to UCF, but will be (if I have to) applying to USF and FIU. Also, there is Barry University here in Miami, which has an accelerated program, but I really want to take advantage of in-state tuition, Barry is private.

Of course!! Yeah, I’ll be applying to other Accelerated BSN programs too. After hearing our advisor say that even the most qualified applicant gets declined, I’m not going to continue putting myself out there just for UF to keep rejecting me. It gets real exhausting and I honestly don’t know what they want anymore and what they’re looking to see in an applicant.... Like, please UF, tell me specifically what exactly you’re looking to see in an applicant because I really don’t know what y’all want......... ? I believe we’re ALL extraordinary students and we have SO much to show for it. I personally believe I am a good student and have a strong GPA including healthcare experience. My friend who shares the same GPA and same level of healthcare experience got in with no issues which was also before the HESI exam became a mandatory requirement during the application process. I’m trying to stay away from private schools because it’s SO expensive! I really like how University of South Alabama offers in-state tuition to FL residents because they’re right at the border. I’ll check Miami out too and just keep my options open to other accelerated BSN programs. Good luck to you and everyone else, I will be sure to announce whether I’m accepted or denied. At this point, I am getting myself mentally prepared based upon what our advisor discussed with me including my previous application experience which was a bust. But, whatever the outcome may be, we’re ALL gonna be okay and we WILL find an institution that will be more than happy to have us in their program. I know you guys are gonna become amazing RNs whether you go to UF or somewhere else. At the end of the day, getting into a nursing program is a massive achievement as it is and we should ALL be proud.
Much love!! <333

I also refresh constantly, but I just personally believe it will be Friday at that time because if people email them they will be gone for the weekend and will most likely answer Monday. Also, I know many colleges within UF like to let their applicants know on Fridays.

Exactly! I was thinking the exact same. They’re tryna be sleek because they know whatever the outcome is, they won’t have to deal with it until after the weekend.
Yea. I’m pretty sure that what will happen. It just sucks that colleges would put not wanting to deal with the immediate calls over given recently admitted students an extra couple days to get their affairs in line. Finding out on Friday, there’s not a whole lot you can do as far as making arrangements for moving and whatever else needs to be done.

Exactly. It really is unfortunate and it sucks because if those who are not admitted, are forced to wait till the end of the weekend to get a response.
We’re all in this together.
I know the advisors look at these pages too so hopefully it’s not held against us. I probably should have said that. It doesn’t affect me in that way, I’m just thinking about others who have concerns like having to put deposits in other programs and finding an apartment and stuff. I feel bad for the advisors too. It’s kind of a catch 22. If students who weren’t accepted didn’t bombard them with emails right off the bat, it probably wouldn’t be an issue. If I’m not admitted I might send an email that says, “ I don’t know how high up I am on the list, but should anyone decline admission last minute, I would be happy to fill the spot, even if it’s a day before class.” ??♀️
