UF ABSN Summer 2021

Published

Hey all!

I wanted to start an offical thread for those applying to UF's accelerated BSN for the Summer of 2021! I know its still pretty early but I thought we could use this platform to support one another and share our own journeys through this process.

I am pretty nervous for this process. However, UF's hollistic approach toward each of its applicants gives me hope and reassurance.

Just a little about myself

I am currently finishing my last semester at USF. My last 60 hr credit GPA is pretty average as per UF's usual standards standing at about a 3.4. My cumulative is not too great so hopefully I am not penalized for having a low overall GPA. I have research experience and a publication to my name so hopefully that may hold some weight. Besides that, I have a lot of various volunteer experiences that are non-health care related.

I was specifically curious to know how much weight health care experience holds for admissions. I worked as a scribe for about one year where I was able to gain perspective into the nursing field eventually influencing my decision to pursue nursing. Besides that, I don't really have very much experience working directly with nurses or CNA's for that matter.

I was also curious to know more about the HESI A2 test if anyone knows more about that.

I would love to hear about everyone elses stats and experiences, how you are going about the admissions process in general.

Good luck to everyone applying this cycle!

I sent an email! I’ll keep y’all updated ? here’s hoping!

Thank you for that!! I’ll be sending an email out as well when I get home. I’m calling it a night, guys. You all take it easy and get some rest. I guess it is what it is at this point. Let’s just use this extra week to pray extra hard on it. ❤️

Maybe the first couple of months will be online and we all won’t have to hurry and stress about moving and figuring the logistics out. ??

True that. I’m down with that possible idea. ?

Sounds like a plan ❤️❤️ Thanks for sending another email.

I tried to politely mention that the best way to honor the effort everyone put in would be to let us know in a timely manner, while balancing that I’m sure they’re overwhelmed and I appreciate how they’ve been thorough to read through everything.

Here’s hoping that’s a gentle nudge to not do this again. It feels a little disrespectful to everyone to keep pushing back, to be honest. I feel more upset for the people who would have to make a cross-country move (or even just a couple hours) and need the extra time to find a place to live. I hope that they let us know before Friday, even if that means they have to respond to emails without a break.

Well said. ???? I just sent my email basically mentioning that we were told not last Friday, but that this Friday we will receive a definitive response on whether we’re admitted or not. I then go on to ask where exactly should we expect to be notified and whether or not it is via email or the post-bac application status page. ❤️

I just wanna say that I’ve read about the disorganization in this program in previous threads and it’s finally being shed some light on. This has me SO turned off about the program; the fact that other schools give me a weekly update and the last I’ve heard was 2 months ago. I have to find somewhere to live, see if it’s even affordable, plan finances, etc. This was my top choice but after this I’m not sure anymore. This is an accelerated program and it’s already going to be heckin hard as it is ?

Exactly what I was thinking. This is absolutely ridiculous at this point. To be honest I am just putting my deposit down and going to a different school if this is the expectation of this program.

I’ll let you all know what I hear back from our advisor. I’m pretty sure it’ll be Monday when I hear back, so I’ll keep you and everyone else posted. Stay positive and rest well this weekend. You’re not alone. ❤️❤️

Hi everyone, Ken here.

Looks like someone beat me to the punch on an update. Thanks for sharing that.

I'm not normally up this late checking emails are responding to threads, but I've got a set of sick 3-year-old twins here that I'm trying to take care of.

As I stated in the other thread, I appreciate everyone's patience so far and I assure you we are working to get decisions on as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to email me.

Wow, goodluck on the set of twins! Terrible three’s is a very real thing. I hope they get better soon.. Thank you for the update, by the way. It’s extremely appreciated.

Well, I've been advising students for 20 plus years specifically for the college of nursing and although I'm not a nurse myself nor have I ever applied to a nursing program I understand the anxiety and the stress (and yes, even the frustration) I know many of you are feeling. Try to take a deep breath, drink some wine if you need to, in fact have a glass for me since I don't drink anymore, and try not to stress. I know that's easy for me to say. I'll follow up with everybody just as soon as I can.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us on this thread. We know that these are unique times and, on top of that, you have a staff member on leave. Things must be stressful for you as well and we appreciate all the hard work that you're putting in. I can imagine it's not an easy job that you do, dealing with the barrage of emails and phone calls that you get from students from August to March. We know that you are working hard and that there are powers that be that have your hands tied. We look forward to receiving the results soon. I pray that your twins feel better soon. That, in itself, is no easy job...the parent of twins (I know because I am one!). Get some rest yourself. And, again, thank you for taking the time to reach out. It means so much to us.
