UCSF New RN Grad Training Program 2014

Published

Hello, everyone! UCSF opened a couple of new RN Training Program for January 2014. Just wanted to start a thread. Did anyone else thought the application was abnormally short? I only attached a resume. Did you attach anything else? Good luck!

I applied to three oncology related units. Such a short app and it's a long shot. I thought it was really neat that there was a checkoff box for completion of mepn year though cause that's what I was able to click!

I applied last time and I applied to all the units, but when I called the recruiters I was told you are only considered for positions where you precepted. I'm not sure what they are looking for, but I precepted for 275 hours in a PICU in northern CA and wasn't selected. Best of luck to everyone this round!

OK all, as I am the least patient person in the world I called HR and asked some questions, here is what I learned:

  • they are taking about 52 people total into the program
  • those "pre-screening questions" help determine your score, the higher the score, the better odds you have.
  • our apps that they have selected will be sent to hiring managers by early next week.
  • they are only on the "C's" (going by 1st name) and are up to 1,500 applicants.

Thanks for the info, houseblew! This info really helps :)

I feel as though what unit you precepted in will be really factored into your score. I feel they do this at a lot of places. I did my preceptorship in the ED, but they didn't have an RN training position in the ED.

Wow 1,500 applicants. I expected it especially since it is UCSF, but yeah it sounds competitive. I wonder what other criteria they use for determining your score since that application was so short. I feel they must have a good process of narrowing it down to some names.

Thank you so much for the info, houseblew! I only applied to medical-surgical positions because that's where my preceptorship was in. I, too, spoke with HR last week but didn't get as in depth of an info as you did you so thank you! The guy who emailed me back said the resume is the only thing they wanted at the time. Although there was an option to attach additional documents, I don't think they'll even look at those if they're going off a point system. He also told me that their goal is to call candidates selected for interviews by Nov. 15th. Seems so far from now! I'm just glad they're actually looking at all the applications (as daunting as that must be!). Most hospitals only look at the first such and such number.

what do you mean by the "pre-screening" questions??

1500 sounds like nothing compared to chla's 2000 lol

Thank you everyone for all the info... Yeah I expected more than 1500 applicants, so if you break it down, it's about a 1:30 chance of selection, which considering the market and the fact that it is UCSF, is not that bad!

I think the pre-screening questions were the ones that asked questions like, "do you have a current license, did you do an additional internship, do you volunteer regularly, etc." I don't remember the exact questions, but it seemed like there were about 7-10 of them...

Good luck to everyone! I'm so happy to have a timeline!

[*]they are only on the "C's" (going by 1st name) and are up to 1500 applicants. [/quote']

I'm pretty sure there are WAY more applications than 1500 if they are only at names that start with "C" and are going alphabetically. Like the poster above said.

I know a lot of people applied to a bunch, if not all, of the positions and are now worried it might look bad. My friend spoke with HR, and they said that they know the state of the job market. So, it won't be held against us if we applied to all of the available positions. I hope that eases some of the worry.

I applied only to 3 positions in critical care. Good luck to everyone else! And for those who will get interviews, congrats!

I didn't have any pre-screening questions. Where were they? I applied to all positions.
