UCSF New Grad Program 10/2016

Nurses New Nurse

Hi Everyone!

I recently applied to UCSF's new grad program that will start October 2016. I'm starting this thread in hopes to meet other new nurses who applied and we can stay in touch with one another.

I wish everyone the best of luck. Let the waiting game begin!

hi @fredrick_desig, was wondering how your interview went!! if you were comfortable sharing any updates in regards to questions and experience- i have an interview with a pediatric floor!

@mj73 thank you for your response! I have my interview on Wed and super nervous. Did they ask scenario questions?

No, they didn't. Again, they are very kind and this maybe will ease the nervousness.

@kha2: Hello! Sorry for the delay on the update. I had zero sleep the night before I had the interview in the morning, so I had to catch up on some zzz's =). Despite of me feeling nauseated all morning due to zero sleep and thinking that I'd bomb the interview, I think it actually went really well! They asked mostly behavioral questions. The only question they asked me that's closest to a situational/scenario kind was "tell us about a specially stressful situation you encountered during any of your clinical rotations and what did you do to deal with it?" The rest of the questions are mostly for knowing whether your qualities and attitude would be a great fit to their unit and team as I believe they already know that everyone they've given an interview to are probably all competent skills and knowledge-wise =). What unit in peds are you interviewing for? It depends on the unit too whether they'll ask more situational or scenario questions. I also asked the interviewers in the peds hem/onc/bmt unit about how many they're interviewing and how many they're hiring. They said they'll hire 4 out of the 16 they're interviewing. Good luck to your interview and to everyone! =)

@mj73 awesome! thanks so much for your response! did you also have to do reference checks prior to your interview? it was a first for me. I thought they usually do it after you are hired....

Happy to help @ xd94! I got mine same day although they meant for me to get it before. Yeah, usually those are done afterwards and one can actually gauge how strong a candidate they are based on that (they won't send one if you're not strongly being considered). I heard some other units at UCSF are doing so, but not ICN, at least not this app round. Good luck tomorrow!

@mj73 ohh I see. Thanks for letting me know. Just had my interview and it was not as bad as I thought. Thank you for all your advice!! I was told they would be letting us know by the end of next week since today was the last day of interviews. Do you know how many people they interviewed for the ICN? I totally forgot to ask but they did say they were hiring 8. I hope we get it!! :)

End of next week...That's awesome! Thanks for that info. I was told 19, taking 8. Hope we get a spot. Did you get to go on a tour of the ICN?

@mj73 no I did not. Did you? I wish I could've seen it. The hospital looks beautiful

@ xd94, no, I did not get a tour. I can't wait for next Friday!

@mj73 do you know if they will be letting us know by phone or email?

@ xd94, no, I don't. Didn't think to ask. I imagine if there's an offer then we'll get a call from the manager of the recruiter. My friend got a call from the recruiter whe she got her offer. I suppose they'll email if we were not selected.

@mj73 good luck to us! Hope to get that call soon! And congrats to your friend!! What unit??
