@kha2: Hello! Sorry for the delay on the update. I had zero sleep the night before I had the interview in the morning, so I had to catch up on some zzz's =). Despite of me feeling nauseated all morning due to zero sleep and thinking that I'd bomb the interview, I think it actually went really well! They asked mostly behavioral questions. The only question they asked me that's closest to a situational/scenario kind was "tell us about a specially stressful situation you encountered during any of your clinical rotations and what did you do to deal with it?" The rest of the questions are mostly for knowing whether your qualities and attitude would be a great fit to their unit and team as I believe they already know that everyone they've given an interview to are probably all competent skills and knowledge-wise =). What unit in peds are you interviewing for? It depends on the unit too whether they'll ask more situational or scenario questions. I also asked the interviewers in the peds hem/onc/bmt unit about how many they're interviewing and how many they're hiring. They said they'll hire 4 out of the 16 they're interviewing. Thanks for that encouragement, guys =). I actually just got a call at noon and was invited for an interview for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant unit this coming Monday morning. For those who are still waiting to hear from UCSF, I can only speak about the pediatric hem/onc/bmt unit as the recruiters that I tried to contact a few days ago, only the one in charge of pediatric recruiting has responded and she only responded regarding this specific unit. She said, as of yesterday, that she had not heard from that unit yet as to whom they have chosen to invite for interviews. I assume the unit has just made their decisions today. Since today is the first day they've called in people, I believe this will continue on for another week or so. I truly hope the best for everyone =). I will try to update everyone once my interview is over regarding the experience.

@Sodabay, BSN : Congratulations on getting an interview! Well, your update has deflated my hopes of still getting an interview. Too bad as I really believe I will fit so well in the Hematology/Oncology/BMT unit because I know that unit like the back of my hand as I was treated and had my stem cell transplant there last September after I graduated. I've learned things that a lot of new grad nurses have not by being a patient, not just from textbooks. I just don't know many tests, procedures, and scans through textbooks, but I actually know how they feel, what to anticipate from them, how to prepare for them, and how to effectively recover from them. I'm also very familiar with the daily routines of the nurses there. I think it will truly be a wasted opportunity if they don't even give me an interview. I'm really starting to feel defeated.

Oh wow! Congratulations!!! I truly hope to be getting a call soon too for an interview or two =). Where did you graduate, if I may ask? Thanks so much for responding to my questions =).

Hello eveyone! I'm so glad to finally find this thread! I applied to a few units, but my preference would be the adult or pediatric Oncology/Hematology/BMT units. It's already August, so I'm wondering if anyone who applied got any of the units has heard back abouy when they'll be inviting candidates for interviews? Also, I would love to know when each of you graduated and if you have any prior paid nursing experience? Thanks in advance =).
