For those who haven’t heard back, the email I got said I had until January 3rd to confirm my interview attendance. Also those who had outstanding classes had until December 15th to show evidence of completing that class or risk having their application administratively removed. So my guess is the list isn’t final and depending on who gets removed by declining an interview or not completing their pre reqs some spaces may open up. I wouldn’t give up hope. Also I’ll be happy to help others too after the application session is over with their essays. Always happy to pay the help I got forward. Hope this helps! Happy holidays.

Thank you ?

Current MEPN here on a much needed break! Congratulations to all of you who got an interview. That's huge!! And to those of you who didn't this time, I really encourage you to try again. Many of us (myself included) didn't get in the first time, but your continuing interest and resolve really makes a difference.

As far as interviews, I can only speak as a FNP, though I believe they are all similar in format. It's all one-on-one interviews. Each interview session a group arrives and there is breakfast or lunch available. Steven really tries to help everyone relax and be as confident as possible. He'll speak and give you the rundown of the day. You'll also receive your interview times when you check-in (for example, in the morning it will be 9, 10 or 11). When you're not interviewing Steven gives campus tours and you can meet with financial aid.

Interviews are about 45 minutes to an hour. A current professor in your program and a community nurse will interview you, so two people. My memory is somewhat fuzzy, but they ask the basics, for example:

  • Why do you want to be a nurse? (You'll become an RN first, so be sure to acknowledge how integral that is to becoming an NP or CNS)
  • Why UCSF?
  • Why this particular specialty?
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

I also looked up "nursing school interview questions" online and tried to answer them for myself. Look professional, but you don't need to wear a suit. Wear something that makes you feel confident and the fabulous person you are. PRACTICE with someone or even better several someones. If you can't, at least practice in the mirror. Remember to breathe. You got this!

Hi @lamberd thank you for all the info you shared. Unfortunately I didn’t get an interview this time and it was my first time applying. What can I do better for the next round of applications to better stand out? Also, has anyone asked admissions why they didn’t get in?

Congratulations on your invitation for an interview!

@sfdoggy Thank you for offering help to the community! I applied but I wasn't offered an interview for the AGPCNP speciality. I was wondering if I can send you my application and give me any feedback? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for asking this @hopelessromantic! I am curious about this as well ? I have a background in occupational/environmental health so I chose the AGPCNP-OEHN focus. Curious about overall current student experience too.

we're now entering middle of November, but i read somewhere we'll find out by the end of the month? is that right?

this is so nerve-wracking... but let's all breathe and hang in there!

Hi! @kmd1005 and @hopelessromantic sorry for the late response. Hope you've both have an interview. Happy to respond to your questions.

AGPCNP and AGPCNP-OEH are very similar with the minor difference that OEH has a set of additional classes that are occ health specific and your clinical placement/adviser will also have that focus. The AG and AG-OEH are really fantastic programs. There is graduate level writing in the masters years in various classes, such as research papers but there is also writing involved in visit notes and charting. There are lots of resources offered to us through the library for this and lots of practice along the way. So to answer your questions, there is a fair amount of writing in the masters years but designed to be incremental in difficulty.

I have been asked to interview - so lost and nervous... anyone in SF/Bay Area want to meet up to go over possible interview questions/meet?

For those who didn't receive an interview invitation... keep moving forward. This isn't the end. If I'm not accepted, I'll apply again, I'll apply to other programs.. its not necessarily me, I may just not be what they need right now. But have hope and faith.

@Flor Juarez Yes, that nervous feeling is pretty intense. It really is a precursor to the next 3 years. I can set up a mock interview with you and anyone else who would like support going into the interview. let me know, i've got a couple of weeks before the next quarter starts.

That would be absolutely amazing! My interview is on the 24th - I live in the east bay and work in SF - anytime you’re available works for me. Thanks so much for offering help to myself and others ?
