A place for individuals applying to the UCSF 2018 MEPN program to contact each other, share information, support each other, and provide advice.
Yes, be prepared to talk about your journey towards nursing. I was also asked what I thought were the qualities of a nurse. Why UCSF and Midwifery in particular and where I saw myself after graduation and beyond and how the school aligned with my future goals. It felt like a nice conversation and I felt at ease throughout, but I think CNMs just have that about them as you'll know @TangoDeux. They both knew my goal statement well.I went in through Koret Way as it's faster than going through Parnassus so I parked on Kirkham. There were plenty of spots at 7:45am and parking was free until 9am so I used the paybyphone app and was set till 11am ($4.50 for 3+ hours). Much cheaper than $4.00 an hour to park in the UCSF parking lot.
Thanks for the tips! I was planning on going up Koret Way as well but I was going to use the UCSF Kirkham parking lot. But now that you mentioned that street parking is cheaper and that we can use PaybyPhone, I might do that instead.
How was the Meet and Greet with the MEPN students? Did they give you any insights on the program? How to get enough financial aid for the first year and how to make it through first year?

Yup definitely use the street parking available on Kirkham to park.
There will be a financial aid clinic on when interviews are taking place so some people went to that while others did the campus tour although you will certainly be able to do both if you want. Yeah the MEPN students were great. We were freely mingling at first and then went off into groups based on specialty. We got a lot of useful information. Basically the first year will be very intense as you can imagine it would be with so much coming at us with lectures, labs, and clinical rotations to prepare us for the NCLEX. There are scholarships available, but limited in the first year. More grant and scholarship options in MS years.

Thanks @acires! Thank you for the info. I can't wait till Friday. I look forward to meeting you then!
Thanks @TangoDeux, @LAbear7, and @Pinks84. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way for us allnurses folks to hang out before the meet and greet and after the am interviews?
The meet and greet itself will be busy and folks will be separated in terms of specialty. Any suggestions for a meetup for us? Are you all planning on staying on campus until 4pm?

Yeah, I was planning on hanging around just because I don't know what time in the morning I will have my interview since you aren't told the specific time until you get there. I would also have to find another parking spot if I leave and then come back. By the afternoon, parking would be hard to find at Parnassus. Where were you thinking of meeting up?

Was gonna suggest Ladle & Leaf, a cafe on the 2nd floor of the School of Nursing, since we'll all be in the building already anyway. Time will be tricky since you'll all have different slots so I suggest 11:45am if everyone here is on for the am slot or 3pm if there are others on for pm slots?

That sounds good to me. As a reference, if any of you went to the monthly info sessions, Ladle and Leaf is in the big canteen area next to the auditorium where they hold the monthly info session for people interested in MEPN and the other graduate nursing programs.
I will probably be taking some of tours so I can get a feel for the school so I might not be there exactly at 11:45am but I will be there. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
