Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the UCSF MEPN program (among a few others) this summer/fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
I am also choosing between UCSF and UPenn! Have you decided? Eek!

It's actually (and quite ironically) come down to Columbia and UCSF for me (the DNP program is really messing with my head haha). UPenn's program is stellar though - you just can't go wrong with that choice. In many ways, I do think it's the safest bet (you walk away with a BSN and MSN from a top nursing program, which also happens to be an ivy league institution, not to mention you get an individualized plan of study and the course load is manageable. I mean, what more could you want? Seems pretty ideal to me haha). However, I just don't think I want to live in Philly. I know that may be silly, but I don't know. Just doesn't seem to sway me too much. Where is your head currently? I think UCSF deadline is today, no?
Hi all! Congratulations to those accepted this year (to UCSF or otherwise!). I'm a prospective applicant for the PMHNP program next year and I was wondering if I could message any PMHNP applicants about their experiences applying and such. Hopefully it's okay that I'm asking here, and I'll delete my post if it's irrelevant to the topic! Thank you so much!
Hi fpjc!
Thank you very much for posting. I will be one of those candidates who will be brought in for the interview round for the UCSF FNP program. Would you mind sharing what that experience was like? I'm nervous about how to prepare best for this interview. Any info would help! Thanks!
Hi there, I am planning on applying to the midwifery/women health MEPN of 2018, after I finish my BA and my GRE. Pre-req are done
For those of you who are into the Midwifery program, I am curious which other schools with midwifery option you applied to as a back up. I have been looking at the Oregon Health and Science school, CA state university of Fullerton, and Penn. If you have done the research or ended up in other school than UCSF, what is your experience and which one do you recommend? I prefer a combined midwifery and women health, but if not combined program, midwifery is my preference. Sorry for the Eng. It is my second language. Thanks, Rachel
Hi all,
Congratulations on everyone who made it into the program!! I applied to a similar program and Seattle University this year and sadly didn't get an interview. I am broadening my horizons for next year, though. I was just wondering about those who got into the program at UCSF. What were your GRE scores, GPAs (overall and in prereqs), and what is your work/volunteer experience like? I'm hoping next year will be my year, so any insight is greatly appreciated!!
I know you asked about people who got in, but just to give you an idea I'll give you my info:
UCSF was my top choice, closely followed by Columbia. I had a 3.6 GPA, 3.8 pre-req GPA, have worked as a tech at 2 hospitals (one psych, one neurological rehab center), worked as a psychometrist at a neuropsychology clinic, an ABA therapist for autistic children, and a few other relevant things, and my GRE scores weren't great (all average) besides writing (which I got a 5 on). I got an interview at UCSF for psych/mental health and did not get in but ended up at Columbia (which I'm now very happy about considering the DNP/MSN issue). The thing with UCSF is they rarely let first-time applicants in- most everyone who interviewed the day I did were 2nd or 3rd time applicants, and were all a bit older than me (I'm 24). They have the smallest class size of most of the schools, yet are #1, so it is very competitive and they require a sense of dedication. Not saying it's impossible, but when looking at statistics, a very large amount of applicants who are accepted have applied to UCSF before. But of course, good luck, I never expected so much as an interview and it was an amazing experience. Hope this helps!
