2012 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

The MEPN deadline is less than 2 months away, so I thought I'd get a thread started for us 2012 hopefuls!

I'm a first time applicant to the WHNP/CNM specialty, and feel like I've been getting ready to submit this application for so long! I've been working abroad for a public health NGO for the past couple of years and am a trained birth doula. I've finished up all of my prereqs and GREs, selected people for recommendations (including a slightly awkward visit to my undergraduate advisor...), so now I'm just drafting my essays. Does anyone even know what the application is supposed to look like this year? I'm just going off samples I've seen from previous years.

Some days I feel sort of confident about my chances, and other days I feel as though this is a total shot in the dark and definitely not going to work out!

Any other hopefuls out there? And anyone know when the application is actually going to open?

Re: recommendations

I just called admissions about recommendations not being sent out. They say they know about the issue and that they are working on it and it should be up and ready "soon," whatever that means. The admissions person on the phone gave me the email address of the person in-charge of the application and said I could follow up by email in the future. Does any particularly diligent person want that person's contact info? PM me with your email address if you do. Starting tomorrow I'll have limited access to the internet so someone else ought to follow up, and you can do me and others on this board the favor of keeping us updated on this whole issue.

@dedicatedone - well, it's not clear. On the one hand, they say that they want to *receive* all of your application materials by September 1 (e.g. "MEPN applicants must take the GRE, and these scores must be received by the Sept. 1st deadline.")

On the other hand, how are you supposed to know that they've received everything if they don't tell you until after you've locked your application, which can be done as late as September 1? I don't know. This might be a question to email them...

Just an FYI - two of my recommenders confirmed they already received the email from UCSF requesting their submission. I only sent out those requests the day before via the application website.

Weird. Maybe it was a problem with the application initially that they've since fixed? I sent mine out July 19, so maybe that earliness accounts for the issue. I'll resend mine as soon as it allows me to, which is tomorrow.

Just sent an email to admissions. I will keep you all informed about our correspondence.

Another question I wanted to throw out there as I am still gathering my recommenders - I see that I am only allowed to enter 4 individuals. I thought we could have up to 5? Was anyone able to add 5 separate recommenders?

Does anyone know how long they would like the personal history statement. I know the website says no more than 2 pages doubled spaced for the goal statement, is this also for the personal history statement? Thanks!

That's the length that I am sticking with for that component as well.

On attempting to log in to the application:

The following error occoured while completing your request: We are experiencing a problem connecting to our database. Please try your request again.

An administrator has been notified, please try your request again.

I just want that email to get sent out to the people writing me recommendations! This application is due in just a few weeks! :crying2:

How strange! Myself nor my recommenders are experiencing any type of login issue.

Is anyone else being locked out?

I can get back in now, but still can't send the recommendation notifications out.

Sigh.

Received an email back from the admissions coordinator.

1. Referring to the ETS Scores: "If the status "received" shows up for your scores, we have received them and matched them to your application."

2. How important is it to submit our application before September 1st? - "Please complete and lock your application as soon as you are able so that we can begin processing and assembling your application materials."

3. They are aware of the recommendation issue but it may be due to a system grid lock for the first week. Once we send reminders, they should be going through.

On a more personal note for the recommendations, I recently submitted an invitation to my recommendation while on the phone with them and they said they received it instantly.

How is everyone doing with the app? Haven't heard any news lately.

Hi all!

Glad to hear some of the kinks have been worked out as far as recommendation invites (etc) are concerned. I figured out how to prevent my app from deleting every new addition in the courses/experiences sections...phew!

Now it's just tightening up this personal statement...

Hope everyone is doing well as we head into the middle of August (time is flying!).
