2012 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Published

The MEPN deadline is less than 2 months away, so I thought I'd get a thread started for us 2012 hopefuls!

I'm a first time applicant to the WHNP/CNM specialty, and feel like I've been getting ready to submit this application for so long! I've been working abroad for a public health NGO for the past couple of years and am a trained birth doula. I've finished up all of my prereqs and GREs, selected people for recommendations (including a slightly awkward visit to my undergraduate advisor...), so now I'm just drafting my essays. Does anyone even know what the application is supposed to look like this year? I'm just going off samples I've seen from previous years.

Some days I feel sort of confident about my chances, and other days I feel as though this is a total shot in the dark and definitely not going to work out!

Any other hopefuls out there? And anyone know when the application is actually going to open?

As far as the "experiences" page is concerned...is anyone else having any difficulties adding more than one item? Every time I go to write the next employment or volunteer position, it deletes the one I just wrote. It will only let me keep just one. Hmmmm...

Additionally, I have only been able to write in 3 pre-reqs before it cuts me off/won't let me add anymore.

I figured I would ask around here before bugging UCSF over email.

I wasn't having difficulties adding additional items in the experiences, but I was having the SAME problem when adding the courses. It would delete previous entries when I went to enter my third class.

Same problem here too....anyone speak with admissions yet?

did anyone have a problem with the picking your specialty page? I am interested in Critical Care/Trauma, but there was no such option available in the drop down bar. I check the masters specialties webpage and it says "The Critical Care / Trauma Specialty Area is not accepting applications for the 2011-12 academic year". is that referring to us applying this year or the year before?

I don't think that is for you because you are applying for the 2012-2013 Mepn portion. However, since it's not on the application I wonder if they are not letting Mepn students into the specialty since it is required to get rn experience for this specialty before moving into the masters portion. Considering the resent difficulty of getting new grad rn jobs, they may have eliminated it for mepn?

Hello all! Has anybody experienced any issues with the recommendations? I sent all mine out, but one of my references says she has yet to receive it. (I have yet to confirm with the other three yet.) I sent a support message and wrote an email but haven't heard back. Come Monday, I'm going to call admissions despite the admonition against calling. Has anyone had any luck with that?

I too have also had a problem with that. Let me know when you speak to admissions what they say..Thanks!

I'm having this problem too! Thanks for mentioning it here - none of my recommenders had contacted me to let me know they hadn't received it, so I would have been in the dark about the whole thing...

Besides the Recommendation issue (and the many others haha) - how do we confirm that our GRE scores have been received? I entered my score and included the appropriate registration number. Is that something they should match up to scores they have on file if UCSF was a school you originally sent scores to?

I think this is something that they only confirm with you after you've locked your application (i.e. they then confirm with you that they've received your GREs, transcripts and any other supporting materials you needed to send).

So - it's 9am in California...anyone want to call about the recommendation issue? :D

on my recommendation page after I sent my recommender the form it says,

"Status: This recommendation was received on Tuesday July 26th 2011 6:08pm"

by received, does it mean that the person has received the email, or does it mean ucsf has already received the recommendation form?

Thanks LookingAhead!

Does that mean that you have until September 1st to have everything submitted? Or do you really have to submit much earlier than Sept. 1st to then have the school verify they have everything?

Thanks for the help :)
